Title: hevi-shot confusion
Post by: sharxfan on January 11, 2012, 06:35:28 PM
Here's the deal. I went to Bass Pro, Cabelas, Dicks, Gander mountain and Academys sporting goods. I looked for the Hevi-Shot shells I always see on here the 3-2-7. I am assuming that means 3 inch 2oz of #7 shot? If that is correct I cannot find that at any store in LA or lower Mississippi. The closest I can find is a 3-13/8-6. Am I nuts? Totally confused about the numbers used or what? The only thing that is close to what I see patterned on this board is the MagBlend Hevi-shot. Can someone please clear the fog from my head? I cannot believe that neither Bass Pro or Cabelas carry this on the shelves. :help:

3-2-7 does mean 3" and 2 oz.  of #7 shot.

I can't find it on shelves either.  Mag blends are easy to find here too.

Haven't seen #7 in many stores here except Academy sports once. I usually order mine off the net. Doesn't cheaper than dirt have a retail store in La.?

God Bless,
David B.

Not anywhere I frequent. I may just buy some mag blends and try them out in my gun.

I found some shells on CTD but is 1090FPS right? I know with rifles speed kills but is it the same with the Hevi loads?

I bought some at the site below and there are more on line sites that stock our type of shells.

Good luck

If you do a goggle search you will find plenty of places to buy it online.

True, but I was hoping to find it somewhat locally. Oh well ordered some from CTD at $16 a box.

$16 a box is a good price.

Yes, 1090 fps is correct, and they kill just fine at that speed. Depending on your barrel length, they may actually be faster than that. I chrono'ed some 3-2-6s last year through my 26" barrelled 11-87 @ 1142 fps. The 3-2-7s did 1218. The Magblends for whatever reason are nominally 1200 fps.
Thanks for the info. I feel better about it now that I know it was not only me that could not find it locally.

BPS in Pearl, MS has 3" & 3.5" Magnum Blend, and 3" & 3.5" Win XRHD #6.

Van's in Brandon, MS has 3" & 3.5" Magnum Blend, and 3" & 3.5" H13 #6.

Academy Sports in Jackson, MS has 3" & 3.5" H13 #6.

All of the H13 #6 I refered to above was 3" 2 Ounce, and 3.5" 2.25 Ounce, and I saw it within the last 3 weeks.

I also know of a little country store much closer to home, that will be stocking Magnum Blend, but I think I'll leave that one for us "local" folks. ;)

I was on my to Hattiesburg when I checked these stores so maybe I will check a few more academies on  my way home then. The Academy in Hattiesburg is so new they were still putting stock on the shelves so  maybe that was the issue.

you will fine the Mag Blends, but you are NOT going to find any #7's because the stores around the Jackson area don't stock them,go figure
