Title: Hay bale blinds and turkeys...
Post by: panolaproductions on January 04, 2012, 11:21:27 PM
Anyone ever used them for turkeys? I'm building one mainly for deer hunting but assumed it would work like a double bull does in the middle of the field... also, how does the size of the bale affect them? mine is a couple feet taller, longer, and wider than a regular round bale.

It will work fine, just get it out there so the wildlife can become used to it being there. good luck

They won't be bothered by it at all.

Been using bails for years, and yes, they work great. CAUTION: depending which region you hunt, rattle snakes love to nest in them as well as a few other snakes, mice,???

Thanks guys. I assumed as much. I'm in bama and we have some rattlesnakes so I'll have to keep an eye out!

I've been researching out building one...mainly for deer also.  I've found quite a bit of info on line...there is a website something like: scottsrealbaleblinds.com    (not sure if that is 100% accurate) that actually shows the framework and how his are made.

I think one drawback would be weight but depending on how you would use this might not be a problem.  I've seen one with small trailer wheels built in receivers on the sides of the bottom that could be removed ...the user towed with his four wheeler then dropped the wheels off of it to lower it.

I will use mine in a semi permanant location...probably will leave it there from august to december for deer hunting.

They won't pay any attention to it. They are great for fields.

I don't think the turkeys will care at all. When it comes to blinds turkeys could care less. You could put it up the morning of ur hunt and be fine.

Never hunted out of a hay bale blind before, hunted behind some a couple of times. Interesting idea.
