Title: New page on my website - copper calls!
Post by: lightsoutcalls on January 04, 2012, 04:01:42 PM

I added this page on my website recently.  I have made copper calls for a couple of years, but never had them on my website.  This is an osage copper call that is also featured under the new calls on the Midwest Turkey Call website.  I am including cedar and osage orange strikers with all of my copper calls as they produce a great variety of sound from the little 3" surfaced calls.

Wendell,  I noticed prior to you posting this that your website previously had a link titled copper/ceramic calls.  Did you give up on using ceramic for a striking surface?  Page and calls look good as usual.

I haven't given up on them, in fact I made one out of osage and listed it on ebay a few weeks ago.  It took me a few years to warm up to copper as a calling surface.  It may be the same issue with the ceramic surface material.  When Stumpy first made it available, I made a few and didn't care much for the sound, and glass was much cheaper anyway.  That osage call I put on ebay was a really good sounding call.  Who knows, I may be making them more down the road.  ;)

I think every call maker and turkey hunter alike have a certain sound in their head as to what or how a call should sound.  Im a big fan of ceramic surfaced calls due to their sound and coupled with their general lack of maintaining the surface, I think ceramic is a real turkey killer.  Im looking forward to seeing more pics of your calls in the future.

Very nice!!

870 funny you said that.  I agree and was thinking the same, I like the copper and ceramic over glass and aluminum.  There is something my ear likes in certain surfaces.
