I know you guys have been waiting for news on the new FastFire III so here is what I can tell you about it.
You can find a lot of information on Midway at this point but here is a picture and my description of the improvements.
Some things should jump out at you right away.
The dreaded lock screws on the back of the sight have been removed and the adjustment screws have been replaced with click adjustments that you can adjust with a cartridge rim.
What you can't see too well is that there is now a battery cover on the top of the sight directly behind the glass. No more need to rezero after a battery change.
The on/off switch has been moved forward and was replaced with a rubber push button that now cycles through auto, low, medium, and high settings before going back to the off position.
The production models will also have a low batter indicator.
The protective cover will be clear so if you choose to leave it on while you are in the field then you can see right through it.
The thing that jumped out at me when I saw the first prototypes was the dots were perfectly round. Even on high power you didn't get the starburst effect that you see on nearly all reddot sights. We're hoping that is something that will be carried over to the production models. Typically the production models are nicer than prototypes.
The sight has the same footprint as the old version as far as the guide pins and mounting screws are concerned. The only difference is the the new sight is slightly longer by about 1/16th of an inch. The extra length is towards the front and not the rear.
I'm sure you guys have some questions so fire away.
NICE :newmascot:
Batt on top! :icon_thumright:
Will the III utilize the same mounts and protector as the I and II?
And when will the III be available with the 4moa dot?
Mounts - yes
protector - no
These should be available at some point in the first quarter.
I'm currently having a picatinny rail customized to fit my single shot, will this new site fit on a standard rail? Will this unit be waterproof? What will the msrp be on this one? And most importantly, need a field tester?
I think y'all may have made the perfect sight.
Sorry, I got excited and should have checked midway before asking my questions. I would still like to offer my services as a field tester though :icon_thumright:

Looks good
I will buy at least one . :icon_thumright:
Any chance we can get a group buy on these?
God Bless,

can't wait to try one.
Awesome!
Yall need to get Cabelas to carry these ASAP. (I've got a bunch of credit there from a gift return)
Cabelas will be stocking it as soon as I have some available.
You'll have to talk to Gobbler74 about anything to do with a buy.
Worst News EVER!!!!
for my wallet
If Gobbler 74 is up to getting a "Group Rate", count me in for one! Still haven't decided between the 3 or 8.....life's decisions!

Is Gobbler74 a dealer for Burris? How is it he is able to see about a group buy for the new FFIIIs?
I thought you were affiliated with Burris somehow?

Nice improvements over the last version. I might have to look at one of these before season starts.
Thanks.....I JUST bought my FFII. :begging:

I am affiliated with Burris. I'm not running a group buy and want nothing to do with it. Gobbler74 ran a buy last year and if he wants to do it again then it would be his call. If he doesn't then there won't be a buy.

FF
There are plenty of threads about the Mueller and comparisons to the FF2. Without going through the whole thing once again the Mueller is much bigger, sits higher, seems to be working very well, and costs much less.
Very nice! Burris makes good stuff, and the FF III will be a nice addition to a lot of guns.

Nope Im not. I did one last year and my name came up this year. I was mentioned in a post as a possible person to do one again. We are able to get better prices because of the qty purchased at one time I guess. I was making my guards before any package deals came along. I'm not fooling with it if folks dont want me too..No problem.
What mounting options are available for this sight? Is it only between the receiver and stock or are there other options?

Alot. I believe you are refering to is the Burris Speadbead as far as the one that mounts between the stock and reciever.
The Burris FFIII will mount to the Marlin 336 base(cleanest look), and the Weaver and Picatinny rail systems.

It will work with all of the FastFire 2 mounts with the exception of the F3 mount and the protector mount.
So it's as easy as pulling off my FFII and screwing on the FFIII? I have the Marlin base and Gobbler74's protector from the package deals he provided last year.
Yes and no. It will work with your Marlin base just fine but it will NOT work with the protector.
Will it be offered in the speedbead mounting configuration?
Gobbler74, will you be making guards for the FF3?
All SpeedBeads will come with the FastFire 2 but we are now selling just SpeedBead mount as a seperate unit for those that would like to have a FF3 SpeedBead system.
As far as I know Gobbler will be coming up with a protector guard as soon as I can get him a FF3 unit.
You know I am really starting to get antsy for the new FFIII with a 3MOA. I plan on putting it on my 870SM and taking the FFII that I have and putting it on my RRA CAR A4
Where and when can I get the speed bead mount for a SX3?
I would suggest looking at Cabelas, Optics Planet, and SWFA for the SX3 mount. I would expect that to be available in the next month or 2.
Will this fit a kimber custom II fixed sight .45. Also, can it also fit a weaver style base by buying an additional mounting plate? Thanks

If will fit the Kimber if you buy the Kimber mount. The picatinny mount that comes with it (if ordered with the sight) will fit nearly all weaver mounts.
When is it going to release? It keeps getting pushed back our turkey season starts march 15 and this is what I was waiting on may have to settle for the II
Hopefully soon!!!!!!
Is the III worth the wait or should I just get the II?
What does the III do that the II wont?
Whats the price difference?

The way I understand it, the III has a built in Gobbler Identifier, or GI. The reticle turns from red, to green when it is on a mature bird. :funnyturkey:

This was listed in the first post of the thread. You can find pricing at Midway.
Any ideas on a release date?
we're shooting for March no pun intended.
March would be great, better then April 6th; what ever I will be waiting to buy in on the group deal. Got a brand new gun and it needs the FastFire III, I will wait if it turns out to be June.
Nice
excellent I love my II and want a III for another gun
Those of you that are wanting the 8MOA are in luck. They will be going out the door SOON. How soon? VERY SOON!
:thanks:
that means the 3moa is right behind them right? :happy0064:
Yes and no. I have some going out to stores very soon as well but not as many as I need.
Im new to these sights so I was wondering what MOA means and whats the difference. Is one better then another? I'm looking to get the FF3 and put it on my Benelli SuperNova for Turkey hunting. What would be the best MOA for turkey hunting? -Thanks for the Help! -Tom
Minutes of angle. At 50 yds a 3 MOA dot would cover about 1.5" circle of target and 8 MOA would cover approximately a 4" circle at 50yds.

What MOA would you recommend for turkey hunting?
Also besides the size of the dot being smaller, is their any differences between the 3 and 8?
One of the reasons we came out with the 8 MOA was to satisfiy the turkey hunting crowd. From the feedback I've been getting it sounds rather unanimous that turkey hunters want the 3 MOA. I personally will be using the 8 moa this year.
When's the definite release date?
The release date was January 1 but I don't think that's what you meant. I think you meant delivery date which was never set because it's not something we can dictate.
Will they ship before march 1?
I emailed Burris and asked them when the FF III would be available. I got a reply that it would be late April or early may before it would be out.

I hope they are wrong. Kind of sounds stupid to release a sight after the season. I'll give it till april and if they aren't released by then I'll be going with EOTECH.

That's my thoughts. I emailed them explaining that I was wanting a new sight for this season and needed the availability date so I could make a decision on waiting for one or not.
Yeah, I was really hoping they would out by now. I have 2 FF2's but really want a FF3. Our season opens March 15th. Oh well.
In case ship date doesn't matter the cheapest FFIII I found was $217.

I also emailed burris and got my response today, all they could say was a March/April timeframe and didn't specify whether that was the 3 or 8 MOA. Like I said before, I'll wait till the beginning of April, just hoping for the best :anim_25:
just on midway usa .com they are showing the ff3 as AVAILABLE!!!!!!!
Thats great! I don't know why they told me March/April. Maybe they were referring to the date both are expected to be available?
That could be,or maybe that date was when all their distributors would have some in stock throughout the country?I am going to check out the other sites (cabelas, ect.) to see if their showing them in stock yet.
I don't know what all of the complaining is about. Calling us "stupid" for delivering a new product after turkey season is pretty ridiculous. We had 2 choices: 1. release the FFIII in 2012 and deliver it as soon as possible and perhaps after turkey season or 2. release it in 2013. Which would you guys prefer?
Nice feeling to come here and see you guys ripping us up for delivery dates on a product you've never seen and probably wouldn't know about if we weren't on this board every day. Love the gratitude. Good luck on the bingo btw.
Burris,
I echo what El Diablo said, don't get down on all us as we appreciate all that you do here for us. We are all excited about the 3rd generation FastFire as its predecessors have a proven track record.
To all those whining, get over it. Burris will release it to retailers when they are ready and have enough supply for the demand. We are fortunate to have a company insider here who actively participates on this forum. I'm looking forward to buying the FF3 when they are available.

I know!!! I mean really. If I was Burris, I'd get your names and ban you from ever ordering a Burris product. This is the biggest bunch of horse poo I have ever seen. He gives a site to be given away on our forum, and nothing but trash. I sure would message Shannon that none who have posted this crap could win the bingo. It is the feed back from us that let to the changes that were made.

Not trying to bash anyone, just a turkey hunter excited about a product that doesn't want to wait. No need to be sensitive, I'd be happy that customers were chopping at the bit to get my product. Sorry if I offended anyone.
I have to say that I could've been a real jam this season if BurriOptics hadn't stepped in and offered me a FFII when I wasn't sure what was going on with my EOTech.
Now my EOTech was found to be fine, however, I'm going to sell it not because it's not a good sight, but because I found the FFII to suit my shooting style better.
Kudos to BurrisOptics for getting his company to make the changes to the already very nice FFII.
Remember, we wouldn't even be getting this sight if this fine gentleman hadn't pushed as hard as he did.
Their customer service is second to none. Burris products for me. I am happy to wait for the FFIII.
X3 El Diablo...
Everybody take a deep breath...you do realize that you got all worked up over 'projected' release date...didn't mean that it couldn't be earlier...
Burris....sorry about the negativity from some on here....it's the end of winter and people seem to be a little punchy around here lately...
THANK YOU for the updates on the FF3 and for getting out to us as fast as you could. BTW..I ordered yesterday and it's already shipped..should be here tomorrow!!!

You know I don't blame Burris Optics for being a little upset about your comments especially after all that they do for us here on this FREE site. They constantly keep us updated on new and upcoming products and has always been there to answer any question that a member may have. They have gone out of there way to do those special things that no other company would ever think of doing such as loaning a guy a sight when he was having trouble with a competitors sight. Yeah I too was excited about the FF III coming out and had ants in my pants but damn dude there is NO EXCUSE to use the word STUPID when referring to such a great company as Burris. And you call that an apology when you tell them not to be so SENSITIVE. Well I don't blame them for being sensitive of your RUDE comments and PISS POOR APOLOGY. They have given away several FF II's here on this FREE site and they DO NOT deserve to have some NEWBIE to come in here and make some BONEHEAD comment towards them.
I expect that you need to give a better apology with some meaning or you sir can just log off now and not come back. This is not the type of member that is welcome here on OG.
Al aka bird
Burris Optics,
I would like to take a moment and say that I am sorry to see that a newbie has made such insensitive and rude comments toward you and the company. I for one am an owner of a FFII and love the sight very much so. I see everything that you do for not just OG but for the members of the site. You have always been there to answer questions that the members have had and had done so with much enthusiasm and grace. I can guarantee you that 99.999% of the members here on OG appreciate having you as a member of the site and I hope that you will accept my apologies for one knucklehead in the crowd.
Sincerely :begging:
Al Clark aka bird
Kudos to Al and Shannon for taking care of this.
That kind is not needed on this great site!
Really? Wow!!!

Well....if we can get back to questions about the FF3......I, and what seems to be many others, would really like to see a pic of the difference in the 3 and 8 MOA whenever it may be possible. Maybe a pic as looking through the sight at a target.
BTW..thanks for the hard work to get the sight out this year---looks like a great product!!

If you look under the review for the Mueller Quick Shot you can see the views you are looking for comparing the 3 and 8 MOA dots. In the FF II review is a view of the 4 MOA dot.
