If you could set against a tree with someone and share a turkey hunt with, living or deceased, who would that person be ?
Mine would be my Uncle David. He was a hunter to the core. While we never turkey hunted togather, we did hunt rabbit, coon and deer. Had a whole bunch of fun doing it too. He was killed by a drunk driver in 1985 while on his way hunting.
My dad, if he hunted
My dad. he just aint in to turkey hunting. He loves to hunt everything else just not turkeys. he took me when I was younger but just hasn't been very interested since I became old enough to go by myself.
Cuz Stricklin. Never met him,but there is just something about him that I really like.
My Dad if he were here now.....gone 28 yrs this summer. He loved turkey hunting.
My dad or brother.
Definately my Dad, we turkey hunted together but it was before either of us really had a clue about what was going on. I'd love to have a good morning hunt with him and just hear some birds gobble.
Dad brother or fiancée it's a toss up
Mine would be Tom Kelly, but ''Cuz'' would be welcome anytime, as well..
It would be my Dad. :icon_thumright:
Mine would be a toss up between Col Tom Kelly & Dwain Bland
It wouldn't be my Dad, 'cause I still hunt with him, the few times he is able to get out.
If I could hunt with someone I don't hunt with now, it would be Teddy Roosevelt. I've always wanted to meet him, and share a hunt.
My Dad love to hunt small game. He never hunted Turkeys I lost him unexpectedly And thought later on MAN if he would have just sat against a tree in the spring woods and heard a bird light up the wood and strut on in he would have been hooked Worked his whole life to support a family on one leg he lost in the Normandy envasions. Took him for granted until he was gone. Don't do the same. God Bless
I'd pick jusy about any kid who likes to hunt but doesn't get a chance to go often. I have the best time with kids, especially one's who have never killed a turkey or deer. I've said it a thousand times, most kids hunt for the right reasons and that makes it enjoyable for me.
My dad he was paralyzed on his left side when I was around eleven, he partially recovered to make a couple hunts (mule deer in Utah). It would be great to go to the woods and finish many unfinished conversations if my wife would let us (she and my dad were very close). Miss him a lot
I would like to take my son again. Since he is married with 3 kids he quit hunting and I miss the time I spent with him. Sota goes along with the song "Cat's in the Cradle". Now that I am retired I have the time and he does not.
ted nugent
My friend Joe....he took his life Jan 2nd in the parking lot of the hospital.....I'll never understand that...
My dad, only if he hunted..
It would be my Dad I lost him in Oct .He taught me all I know about almost everything.
my great gandaddy
My Dad...He passed away in 1986 and I miss our deer hunts together.
My grandpa. By the time I was big enough to hunt he could not get around very well.
my dad, my great grandpa Jay, or Tom Kelly.
My buddy Jim he passed away last Oct. Last deer season wasnt the same.
my grandpa..he started me hunting when i was 10 in in 1948.i still have his old steven's double 12ga.he was a crack shot with it.i got to hunt with it when i was 13.we never got to hunt turkey there weren't any. i remember setting with him against this old oak tree hunting squirrel's..i was setting by this tree and killed a big old gobbler.i though about him at that time wishing he was there....he passed in 1959 and i still miss him..my dad never hunted
My grandpa and dad didn't hunt Turkeys, because their ancestors had already killed them all in Minnesota ;D So, I'm passing on those guys for Turkey hunting, and I'm going with my buddies here. I try to hunt with at least 1 every year off of the Site, and so far that was Mike Tice, trkyklr, Blueribbon, and this year Simpzenith. That leaves a bunch yet left, too numerous to mention. There's as good a bunch of Turkey Hunters here as what you see on TV, but just too dang ugly to get their own show. ;D
My father first and fore most, my best friend and then anybody who hasn't killed a turkey would be next.
My grandfather. I got to fish with him once when I was about 8. He farmed to support his hunting, fishing and trapping. One year he made more off his furs than he did his tobacco crop, and with 5 boys and 5 girls, he always raised good crops. Back in his days he probably killed 100 hawks and owls because they were getting his rabbits, squirrels and quail. (not saying that is a good thing, its just the way things were back then). Deer didn't come back good on his farm until he was up in years and he probably never saw a wild turkey. The perfect hunt would be to set up right with him and call one up. I'd like to think he would be proud of me and I think my mother probably sees some of him in me.
I would pick my grandpa. By the time i was old enough to hunt he was getting pretty old. The only time I hunted with him was when I begged him to go squirrel hunting. He respected the land and all its inhabitants. I never got to hunt with him much but he taught me so much abut the outdoors and I am grateful for his presence in my life.
My wife. If she would sit down with me and watch a beautiful Oklahoma sunrise and watch the turkeys fly down...strutting and gobbling, then she'd understand this obsession I have!

That's the issue with many ladies I've run across. They just won't give it a try. ;D Usually I lose em at getting up at 3:30 am.
hands down it would have to be my grandpa
If I could just have him back for just one more hunt
My son Isaac that passed away on 9/11/2007...I would have loved to see your eyes lite up when a big ol' tom thundered off a gobble from the limb at daybreak...miss you boy.
Thanks fellas for your post............ just things to ponder
I love spending time in the turkey woods with my wife...but I cant wait till my son (just turned two) is old enough to go with me in a few years!!!
My grandad...he died when I was 4.
It would have to be my Brother, he took me own my first deer hunt and bought me my first gun when I was 10 years old. He got killed in 1986 in a HVAC accident.
My grandpa as well. I never got to meet him because he passed away when my dad was in high school. My dad always talks about how much he would have liked me b/c he loved to hunt and fish.
My dad. Has been gone since '99. Would love one more hunt with him.

if i had to pick one person i dont already hunt with it would be william stephens he and i were great friends he took his own life on the side of I-24 in 2001 we never hunted together but i'd sure love to now
Dad! I miss him..
I'd love to take my dad turkey hunting. He grew up hunting small game to help feed the family. I've heard stories of how his dad told him "you better bring home an animal for every shell you take". They had it rough and pretty much followed the crops during picking seasons and cut and sold firewood, eggs, etc. to make ends meet. Dad worked almost every free moment when I was growing up trimming trees and landscaping to subsidize the income from his day job. We probably only hunted a dozen times or so throughout my years at home, most of those times for squirrel or rabbit.
I had the privelege of taking him on his first deer hunt in probably 25 years and his first successful deer hunt in around 50 years about 2 years ago. He took an 8 point with his new muzzleloader within 15 minutes of me downing a 10 point with my muzzleloader. That day is a vivid memory, and one of the best we have had together.
I'd love to take him this spring for a turkey hunt in OK. He has had recent heart issues (irregular heartbeat) and had a quadruple bypass years ago. He has had 2 brothers and 2 sisters die of heart related issues younger than he is. He also just had a bone biopsy on his knee. I don't know how many more years I will have a chance to take him, but also don't want the intensity of the hunt to induce a heart attack. I'm really struggling with asking him if he wants to go...
My Grandpa- he died when I was a kid and before he taught me all he could. He took me with him hunting everything from coons to deer. I used to sleep in front of the door so he couldn't sneak off and leave without me ;D
I think he's still beside me everytime I go out :angel9:
I would have to say my Dad who passed away about 20 years ago.He is the one that taught me to turkey hunt.Of those living,I always wanted to hunt with Eddie Salter and a couple of years ago,I did just that.Great caller and a gentleman as well.
My only child, who is now 26. We used to hunt small game and then deer as he got into his teens. But after 3 tours in Iraq he has lost interest in hunting altogether. We have fished since his return home, but that's it. Sure would love to spend a spring morning chasin' gobblers with him.
