Title: Backyard friend
Post by: canadatom on December 13, 2011, 10:28:07 AM
First saw this little fella in the spring. Built a few boxes for him.  He has taken a liking to one of them and stays here full time now. Neat to have around and helps control mice population.

He is an eastern screech owl and the box is roughly 12 feet off the ground.

Where did you get the plans for the box? Looks like a woodduck box, but I have been wanting to see if there was a difference

We have E. Screech owls that routinely use our Wood Duck nesting boxes every year.

PixController has E. Screech Owl nest boxes set up with a live cam in one of them.  Currently a red phase screecher is residing in one.   Here's the link:

If you have any kittys that you are fond of, you may not want to let them out at night.
Just saying

That's awesome!!!
While bow hunting about 10 years ago, it was a very bright moon lit nite. I stayed in the tree in hopes of one a those huge nocturnal bucks.
I got bored and started making squealing mouse noises by putting my front teeth on my bottom lip and suck in tiny bits of air.
Wouldn't ya know, within a few minutes there's an owl "in my face". Scared the tar out of both of us I'm sure.   Never did that again....lol

Love owls...what an awesome creation!!
