Gentlemen.
Where is your favorite place to setup on turkeys? Do you like to camp out on field edges, or are you more of a deep woods hunter.
My favorite is to hunt field edges overlooking known safe areas where turkeys will visit. I don't mean ambush situations, but areas where a turkey will not only answer your calls, but will feel safe traveling down to that area.
What do you guys like?
Up until about 10:00 a.m. I like the timber. After that I like to field hop, hunting the woods along the way.
Where they are gobbling!!! I prefer big hardwood flats, but after spending some time out West hunting them on open farm ground I like that also.
Decoys & fields are real killers ! I've had gobblers come from over 300 yds once they have spotted the decoys. :icon_thumright:

timber for me but will go to where the birds are.i do like open areas on a rainy day
All of the above with a cypress swamp thrown in there as well. :z-guntootsmiley:
Fields for me.
Where ever he is roosted. If it is on a field's edge then that is where I will be, but if he is in the woods then that is where I will be.
I like timber at dawn and then on up in the morning I like to hunt field edges and fields. Out west is almost all field hunting.
Very few of my hunting spots have any timber much thicker than a brushy draw, so I'm usually limited to hunting field edges anyway.
Like woods up to around 9:30am....then edge of field.
I put my ground blind in a somewhat open area between a thick timber on one side and pasture on the other. There are corn and soybean fields all around. This little area seems to be one of those safe places that the turkeys come through. I hunt deer in the same exact spot.
I hunt woods and fields but fields with decoys is where I kill most of my turkeys!
Wouldn't know how to hunt open ground. There aren't many fields in this part of the state.
I had rather be in the woods but will set up on a field if that is where he is roosted at first light. After 10:00 or so its all field hunting for me
killed more in the fields i like the timber too

Im opposite from Augusta. I dont know if I would know how to hunt in the woods....Its something that I would like to try though. It just seems like there are too many pines around my hunting spots, not many open hardwood stands left.
Both for me but best results in the edges of fields where I hunt. I also notice in the evening the turkeys out here seem to follow the white tails in to the fields sort of a second layer of safety.
I'll go wherever he is, but love hunting fields the most I'm like Ricky love to watch them come in from 200-300 or more yards to my decoys it's great watching that happen..
I love hunting the woods but I'm gonna go wherever my chances are the best on that day! "Adapt and Kill"!
The biggest majority of my hunting is done in the woods. I simply just don't have access to fields unless I hunt out west.
thick woods means up close and personal shots, really thats the only spots in Socal that I've gotten shots on public land. As for the private land its all fields with decoys. But I've had them straight look at the dekes and turn and run to the next county lol.
I live out west so most of my turkey hunting is done in the open. I didn't say fields because even our woods are pretty open compared to the south. I think thats why I love huntin the south. Those hardwoods are hard to beat. Best hunts I've ever had were in the deep south hardwoods. That said I'll kill them wherever I can.
TRKYHTR
Where I come from the majority of my land is gonna be piney hills and a little bit of hardwood bottom land. We dont have open fields to hunt most of the time. I've always wanted to watch a bird come into a field and work across to my setup. It sure is a fine show to watch on TV so I imagine the real thing would be awesome to see.
hardwoo flats
I don't have fields in which to hunt turkeys or deer, so I hunt in the woods.
theres just nothing like hearing the sounds of a turkey in the woods and not knowing exactly where he's is located
I'm an equal opportunity turkey killer.

i agree
man theres a lot of guys on here this morning dont anyone work lol my excuse is im off for the winter
For me, the woods. For deer as well as turkeys.
Fence rows and wood edges for me, I like to be able to see since I don't hear well, I rely on my sight more then anything in the turkey woods but I will go into woods and sit up.
