Title: Pattern Pics 2-16-11
Post by: woodchip on February 17, 2011, 12:22:52 AM
Done some patterning today while it was 65 degrees out.  The Hevi-Shot H13 3" 1.25oz #7s gave me the best pattern.  I need to get a set of Williams fire sights for it though so I can move the POI.  The black dot was the point of aim in the original circle, and I made another circle for an idea of what it would do if I put sights on it to move the POI.  Ran out of paper on the #6s and had to use some cardboard.

Those will all kill no doubt, but are abit weak at 40yrds.What is your brl. length on your gun?you may want to go alittle tighter on you choke to help give some margin of error on yardage estimating. :icon_thumright:

Hmm... Is the gun a Remington or CD?  Your getting about half of what I get with the same ammo & choke.  I get 150's w/Fed HW FC 7's, 180's w/H-13 7"s & over 200 with Nitro 7's.

It is a Remington 870 with a 28" barrel the choke was a Remington SF.

That set up shoots the Fed heavy 7 load for me but I have to use a tighter tube to shoot the h-13 7s

I would go with a tighter choke. I tried the RSF in my 21" barrel 870 and got low 100's with the fed hw #7's. The H-13 #7's did 130's. I swithched to a hastings .562 and got in the 170's with the fed hw #7's. The H-13 #7's didn't pattern as good in the hastings. I get in the 150's with the H-13 #7's with a truglo gobble stopper extreme .565.

Not sure how tight of a pattern you are looking for . I can't use #7 but I did shoot #6 Heavyshot 3" 1.25 out of my mossy 500 20 gauge with a 22" barrell and a .555 I.C. choke. I took most of my shots and 30 yds and was getting in the 200's. I did take one shot at 35 yds the farthest I could safely get away from the target and got in 170's in a 10" circle.
