Title: 22 miles per hour???
Post by: TClark on October 30, 2011, 01:17:28 AM
Sitting on the side of the highway waiting to catch speeders, a State Policeman sees a car puttering along at 22 miles per hour. He thinks to himself, "This driver is just as dangerous as a speeder!"

So he turns on his lights and pulls the driver over. Approaching the car, he notices that there are five blondes - two in the front and three in the back of the car - wide-eyed and white as ghosts.

The driver is obviously confused, and says to him, "Officer, I don't understand, I was doing exactly the speed limit! What seems to be the problem?"

"Ma'am," the officer replies, "you weren't speeding, but you should know that driving slower than the speed limit can also be a danger to other drivers."

"Slower than the speed limit? No sir, I was doing the speed limit exactly - twenty-two miles an hour," the old woman said proudly.

The State Police officer, trying to contain a chuckle explains to her that "22" was the route number, not the speed limit. A bit embarrassed, the woman grinned and thanked the officer for pointing out her error.

"But before I let you go, Ma'am," the officer says, "I have to ask... Is everyone in this car okay? These women seem awfully shaken and they haven't muttered a single peep this whole time."

"Oh, they'll be all right in a minute, officer. We just got off Route 119."

Ha!  Reminds me of my old aunt that dad had to take her license at 95!   I have seen her barrel across the concrete parking stops in the parking lot like no body's b-ness!   The whole car was lurching 2 ft, lol.  She was something else in that Belair.

That also reminds me of my Grandpa. At age 93, he took a ride out to the family cottage, which is about 15 miles away. The road is very rural with a bunch of turns and many trees. His neighbor happen to be going that direction and followed him the whole way. When my Uncles were told of his escapade, they were none too happy with Gramps. The neighbor assured them that Grampa had drove very well. He then stated that all that was needed was  to get him to drive on the right side of the road. Seems he drove the whole 15 miles on the wrong side..That was Grampa's last drive...Mike  :o

Believe it or not, I actually had someone try pulling the same trick.

I stopped a car on a local State highway (M-75 N) near the Boyne City area.    The driver was from the Detroit area and tried saying that he was doing exactly the speed limit.

My response back was, "You're from Detroit... right"?     The driver puffed up and said that he most certainly was from the Motor City.     I asked if he was familiar with I-696 which makes a big loop around the city.    The driver informed me that he drives that route everyday while on his work commute.

I asked if the speed limit was 696 mph, or something a bit more reasonable such as 65 mph.    He turned red, and admitted that he was fibbing and trying to put one over on me.  :TooFunny:
