Judging by the comments, and the slow motion replay, it appears to be fake.  The muzzle disappears.

He also pumps the gun after it misfires, and no shell hits the ground. It is a fake. Besides that, no one goes to his aid, and he takes the time to pick the shotgun up before he leaves. That would have been the furthest thing from his mind.
