Post by: mbecnel on October 13, 2011, 02:26:48 PM
Anyone hunt this area? Trying to gather up some info on spring turkey hunting. Not looking for a fully guided trip, maybe a semi guided or public. Would like to combine with some vacationing

I've hunted it, and wouldn't go back. Plenty of public land in other places in this country that are not completly overrun with hunters, around every corner we ran into other hunters. Fun place to hunt but be prepared to meet a lot of people.

Good luck!

I hunted it last year on public land. Never saw another hunter in the woods, or even pulled off the road anywhere. One morning we saw 4 guys from AL that was eating breakfast with their camo on. Only camo I saw in 4 days that wasn't on me or my son. Send me a PM if you want some info.

I was hunting on private and didn't have to worry about other hunters so I was up there mid May , and hit it just right - , the birds were tearing it up with the gobbling - If your hunting public you have to worry about other hunters skimming all the low hanging fruit , and the woods cleaned out of gobblers -

- Make sure you time it right , too early and there will be snow - this year was snow all the way to the end of April - Blackhills is so beautiful allow yourself some time for sight seeing .... Badlands/Rushmore .... I wanted to move up there by the time we were done
