One of my neighbors had a pear tree come down this summer, and free wood is free wood. So I made a pear box. I hope to have a soundfile on this one soon, it's pretty awesome.http://youtu.be/pIyAnCO487o

Thats a nice touch with the bark on the paddle. Was the pear tree already dead when it fell? Wont it check if it was green?

yes, the piece I used was still a little green, but I use an automotive grade urethane clear for my finish and seal the hole box and lid. On the open grain on the ends I have to wet sand and shoot another coat on. You can wet sand the box to flatten the shine for hunting and buff it out for display.
