Mr. Shaffer was a game biologist, conservationist, wild turkey evangelist, master hunting guide, story teller and collector. He was known as Virginia's "Mr. Wild Turkey" during his 33 years as biologist supervisor and field coordinator for the Virginia Department of Game & Inland Fisheries (DGIF).
Guests at his funeral were encouraged to bring a turkey caller.
Maybe the most impressive thing about Shaffer was that he read the Bible 9 times!
