I'm from Battle Creek but missed this while up north fishing. Must have been setting up for the bow season as only small game is open. Sure doesn't sound like an accident!

there is no such thing as a hunting accident
there is no way a person should EVER be mistaken and shot for an animal
these people should be held and charged with manslaughter or 2nd degree murder >:(

yep !!!  its either gross negligence or some kind of homicide made to look like a hunting "accident" -either way now that the perpetrator has fled the crime scene the charges are now leaning towards some form of murder- you can bet the police will be running around looking for shell casings ,picking up soda and beer cans in the woods  for  DNA , taking pictures of shoe and tire prints the whole nine yards

here in Florida about 15 years ago we had 2 hunting "accidents" in two different WMA's about a week apart , turned out that both of these folks were from the same town , and the perpetrator was never found , if I remember one of them was shot while in the tree stand - go figure

Prayers out to his family

Yeah I remember hearing about those Shannon, its sad when something like this happens. I hate to think it was murder, not that it matters but would be less scary if its just negligence on the hunters part. And like Red Said there was an early doe hunt on private land in parts of the state starting on sept 15th

I remember my dad telling me that a guy from the next camp over from his was shot and killed while in his deer stand many years ago. The shooter thought he was a bear up a tree and shot him. Some people dont belong in the bush with a gun.
