This weekend is when I start baiting for bear. I wanted to find some "bulk" bait rather than spending a fortune on this and that at feed stores or walmart. I stopped by a freight salvage store on the way back from a work site the other day. The owner of the store actually is the closest neighbor of my buddy where I will be hunting. I told the owner what I was looking for and she took me outside to see what she had available. For $20 I shoveled loose cookies, crackers and cereal into the back of my truck. I have a step-side Ford Ranger, so the bed isn't huge, but I left with the bed of the truck filled to within 2" of the top of the bed. She offered to let me come back after what remained in the bin I shoveled it from. I only got about 1/2 of what was there. Between these several hundreds of pounds of cookies and about 100 pounds of cooked pizza dough, I hope to be able to fill my 55 gallon barrel up to 3 times in the next 2 weeks. Man, time is going slow today at work... I can't wait to check my trail camera and set up my site tomorrow!!!
We have a day old bread store not far from my house. For 20 bucks they use to let me fill up the back of my F-250 with anything in the store, ranging from expired white bread thru Hostess cupcakes. I used to bait hogs for my traps and to bowhunt over. I never knew how heavy sacks of beard were until I had to carry them 3/4 of a mile in the woods.
Hope you can Kill a bear over it. Good luck!
I hope you get one! The baiting is almost as fun as the hunting, each time you go bait you can't wait to see how much has been eaten!
