Title: Star Dot?
Post by: Wingbone on August 26, 2011, 12:02:04 AM
I have come across a choke that I bought around 6 years ago that I believe is a Star Dot. I bought it at Wat-Mart. It looks like a Kicks but has the knurled end like a SD. However, the grooves are parallel instead of checkered or diamond cut. I've used it in an 870 for years and love it. Just wondering if it is the prized SD. There are no markings on it except for a large XF. Any ideas?

The Star Dot chokes were made both ways.  SOme were knurled on the end of the top of choke and some were straight grooved.  Take a picture of it and post it.  I should be able to tell you if it's a Star Dot.

The one  I have is knurled.  I had another one that was knurled as well.

I'll try to get a pick of it up tonight. I've just moved my "all things shooting" room into another part of the house, so I'm going to have to locate it first.

Here's a pic of my Mossberg Star Dot. I haven't patterned it yet, but judging by the number of guys who offered to buy it the last time I posted this pic, they are very well thought of.

Sorry guys, it's not for sale.

That's the straight groove design.

Here's the knurled version.

And might as well show how that choke can shoot.   :toothy12:

Now you know why the Star Dots are hard to beat in the 835.

That's it! Mine looks just like Natman's choke only mine is for remchoke threads. Are they all in high demand or is it just the ones for Mossbergs? I've always been impressed by mine, and thought it did incredibly well for a cheap Walmart choke that didn't even have a brand stamp on it. Then I got on here and saw that everyone seemed to be after the elusive Star Dot. Nice to know what I've got now anyway. Thanks guys!

Not to rain on your parade, but I had a Star Dot Rem choke and I gave it away.  I'll leave it at that.

Sold my remy too but still have a mossberg 835/935 and win choke version for the 500/590 moss and 1300 win.

Well at today's prices I would sell mine for it's weight in gold, but it is the best choke I have used thus far, ha.
