We were shaken pretty good in Northern Virginia. My dog started barking about 15 seconds before it hit. I feel kinda bad for yelling at him.
Felt it pretty good here in Winchester. Epicenter was near Mineral, VA in Louisa County.
You know you have a great call when an earthquake hits and they start yelping on the shelf! Ralph Snodgrass's long box never sounded better!
The 2011 Earthquake. Through DC and the East Coast? That's the Congress Fault!
:z-winnersmiley:
I just heard about it. Glad to hear y'all Virgina boys are ok!

OBAMA did it. He's vacationing at Marthas Vineyard.
I spoke with a guy in Charlottesville after it happened and he told me it shook for close to 45 seconds. They had enough time to get over the shock, figure out what it was, decide to walk outside, and then walk outdoors.
I was in the store & a roll of paper towels fell off the shelf when the quake hit. Hope no one was hurt or any damage was done.
:newmascot:
Latest pic of earthquake damage in dc. Obama just cut a check for 3 trillion for cleanup

Guys The quake was the largest in Virginia since 1897 and the Quake was felt up and down the east coast.

I work same place as gobbler 74, out in the shop only one person felt it where we were working and he was sitting down, standing couldn't feel it.
we did not know about it until people started getting calls about it
He's right the second floor was a different scenario. One of the girls from my dept was in the shop and never felt it on the concrete. Mass hysteria up stairs LOL. See shark if you hadn't left you would been along for the ride. I thought the IT lady was going to dive out the window.
Earthquake today, tropical storm on it's way. You guys need to pack up and come to Wi. The ice is off the lakes, the snow is gone, and it is actually summer up here. You had better hurry, though, it can change in a minute. Last year summer was on a Tuesday, and I didn't even get to go swimming. Keep your heads low and your feet on the ground..Mike
I felt it here in Pa 5.8 they say
One day closer to Jesus! "And there will be EARTHQUAKES in diverse places" (Matthew 24:7)
Hope everyone is ok with little to no damage.

I don't truly believe it was an earthquake. Rumor has it CamoMan got into some pretty powerful chili. USGS claims it was a surface event which lends credibility to the chili story.......
Epicenter was in Virginia ........ Just sayin'.......
I thought I smelled something a little rancid this afternoon.. :o
it was felt in n.pa. without a doubt!
Today Obama announced that a major fault line has been discovered running through the Capitol. He called it "Bush's Fault"
HAHA glad you boys are ok but those are normal quakes out here in cali. And gobbler74 that picture is pretty funny.
On a serious note everyone should have and probablly still should go out side and check gas meters and water. And glad everyone is okay.
After watching the news and listening to the scenarios and all the Earthquake gurus several things were interesting. The shock felt from this quake although small was carried farther and felt more significant due to the type of terrain and depth. The bedrock and harder makeup of the surface of the east coast caused the tremor to spread due to the shallow depth of 3.7 miles. In areas like California and Sandy soil etc the effects wouldnt have been as wide spread. All I know is I'm glad it wasnt "The big One" :icon_thumright:
Felt it real bad here in Silver Spring, MD. I work on the 13th floor of an office building and it was shaking like crazy.
I was sitting on the couch watching TV. I thought I was going crazy. It felt like a fighter jet flying just over the house without the noise. I said to myself that if I didn't know any better I'd think that was a freaking earthquake. It won't be long before the Lord returns: read Revelation.
The news reported it was felt in Canada and there have been reports it was felt in Bama to.
Felt it right smart in Culpeper VA, about 26 miles from Mineral(epicenter). It shook so hard here that all the deer mount fell off my walls. The old memorabilia type tractor barn that was my great grandfathers collapsed too. The target in culpeper collapsed in one place and The gym at the high school is done for.
I heard the same thing gobbler74, that the rocks are alot harder and colder. And thats why it was felt worse than what it was, right? when it quakes down here it feels like the earth rolls. I remember my dad snatching me out of bed when I was a lil guy and trying to run out of the house, when the "North Ridge" quake hit.(look that one up) my dad still says that he could see the road roll like 2ft waves. That one was bad, even earth quake "proof" freeways fell.

Well, don't worry ole' CamoMan is here and well. I got ya some chili gas there chatterbox!!!
Remind me to not get into a truck with you! ;D
I was on the 3rd floor of the parking garage at Fairfax County INOVA Hospital sitting in my car when it struck.....
Let's just say I looked around and cars were rocking up and down/side to side everywhere.
Looked like a bunch of cadillacs w/ hydraulics in the movie Next Friday.
