Hey Y'all,
I need a new set of 31x10.5-15 for my Toyota Tacoma.
At the moment I have BFG A/Ts. Like the tire, but a hair pricey.
What are some good brands that have good A/T tires that aren't as $$$
Nitto Terra Grapplers - I used to run BFG AT's, which threw gravel like crazy, so I decided to try out the Nitto's. They'll do anything the BFG's did, and slip even less on wet pavement. Some people complain about their treadlife, but I've had no problem with that...over 40k miles on my current set.
GOODYEAR
Goodyear Wrangler DuraTrac
Around here, DuraTrac's are more expensive than BFG AT's. Now, that might be different if you happen to live fairly close to Tuscaloosa... ;)

I live further away from Tuscaloosa then you and I really like my Goodyear Wrangler Silent Armors.
I'm running Cooper ZEON LTZ A/Ts on my GMC. They are a little more aggressive than BFGs, so they impact fuel economy a bit more. They are good looking tires for sure.
Check out Discount Tire Direct and Tire Rack for the best prices.
I use Cooper tires on my Tacoma and love them
Good post.
Does any company on the internet have free shipping? My buddy told me he had his shipped free through rough country, but i couldnt find no tires on there for me. I looked at discount tire direct and they have some great prices on all terrain tires but i click on shipping and its like $129 to ship to me for all 4 tires bringing the total to like $750 but its still cheaper than anyone around here.Im looking to buy all terrain tires for my tundra also. They are wanting anywhere from $875 to $1200 here. :begging:
I am all for the Firestone Destination A/T as well. Wife has a set on Explorer and I'll put a set on the Dakota this fall. All tires are High, High, IMHO. Around here in WV a lot of guys run Mastercraft Courser AT2 as well, but I can't find any reviews on the net for them.
Search it up on Tire Rack, look at the customer survey. This is real life experience.
How are the firestone destnation good in snow.It says it handles well in rainy conditions but havent seen any reviews in snow yet.
And another thing what bout them guys over in alabama wonder if they give a old gobbler buddy any huge discounts. You know who u are. :begging: :begging:  ;D :TooFunny:
I am 20,000 into a set of Firestone Destination on my Silverado and they rank near the top of any tires I've used.
We have had them the past 2 hard winters in WV and they are better than the BFGs I had on a Tacoma or anything else we have had. This is on the road and gravel, unplowed roads with up to 6" of snow.
Goodyear , I have a set of the aggressive tread mtr/kevlar in 33" and they kick but in the mud and wear very well - the traction off road is remarkably improved over any other tire I have ever tried - look into it and try them out you wont be sorry --Shannon
Toyo !!!
Glad to hear all of the good reviews on the Firestone Destination AT's. I just purchased a set recently. I was replacing a set of Bridgestone AT Revo's and got the Desinations for over $200 less than the new Revo II's. I shopped around everywhere and the local Firestone store even beat TireRack once you figured in shipping and having them mount and balance. $675 out the door on a set of 265/75/16's. Couldn't argue with that. Substantially less than the set of Revo's I bought 2 1/2 years ago.
Raspy, DTD has free shipping. I just checked there the other day on some BFGs. You can take the wtty and stems out of the cart.

So without shipping i can get a set of firestone destinations for $648 that just seems to cheap but it might be right.
im runnin yokahoma geolanders they are great tires 8 ply ride a little rougher but they last awhile and they go pretty good i think mine were $189 a piece the nitto are a good tire too
Checked DTD and Tire Rack and none of them carry the Firestones in my size.
I have put 90k + on my last 3 sets of bfg so I feel there definetly worth the money.

Nitto Terra Grapplers!
Who would y'all recommend ordering from?

I have run my Terra Grapplers in the northern rockies, through rivers and up inclines i don't want to remember they were so sketchy. Through water logged clay/mud fields and have yet to have a problem. Plus there real quiet on the tar roads. Taken them 8 miles out onto frozen lakes in snow up to my running boards without any trouble.
I get mine from Discount Tire

When I ordered mine, I actually got new wheel/tire combos from discounttiredirect.com, so I got free mounting, balancing, and shipping...and no sales tax.
This is the first winter I had Coopers on the snow was pretty deep and my truck plowed right through it without any problems:

Nitto Terra Grapplers!
:agreed: best tires I've had!
Firestone Destination A/T here also. I help make em' and I endorse them.
Going with the Firestone Destination A/Ts yall. Thanks :you_rock:
I think you can still find them--- Sport Kings. They are made by BFG, but a whole lot less money. But for the money, I put a set of mud terrain retred tires on my Dakota. $70 each installed, mounted and balanced. They were the best going set of tires I have ever owned, and I have ran Goodyears, BFG's, michillen's and a couple of others. Did not get the milage out of them, but for the money, I was very happy. And they were in 31x10.5x15.

Running down the highway, but don't get them in the wet grass, snow or mud and you will be okay
I can agree with the FS Destinations not being worth a hoot off road. They give pretty good life on the HWY and are not really an AT tire in my eyes. They are a tire for running the roads that look better than street tires.
The Cooper LTZ Zeon, BFG AT, Nitto TG, PC Ext AT, and a few others are the types that offer a bit better traction in snow or slightly slick situations.
Down here you might as well run MTs to have any advantage when it gets wet. I do see a minor advantage with aggressive ATs in slick stuff, but MTs are the only tires that will make or break a bad situation off road. When we hunt snow every year for big game, aggressive ATs also show a slight advantage over street treads, MTs even more so. Non aggressive ATs are nothing more than looks alone when it comes to actual functionality IME.
When it comes to strictly off road, it's hard to beat non-radials such as Buckshot, Gumbo, or SSs. I run SS LTBs on my hunting truck and they are hard to beat in bad situations, but they have to be the worst tires on the hwy I've ever owned.

Agreed! "All Terrain" means OK at all things, but great at nothing.
Im glad yall said this bout the firestone cause i was looking hard at them. What yall think bout goodyear silent armors.Good in snow and rain and good handling or what say you.
At this point i am torn on getting tires dont know which way to go but really dont want to break the bank either.
Some good info here. Thanks fellas..... :thanks:
I have these Yokahamas on an old hunting jeep and my truck and love em. Killer winter tires without the noise or rough ride. Ive got some pics of the old jeep in 20" of snow from a couple years back..broke tracks across the mountain no problem. I will get the snow pics of the jeep in action and post em. I have just one on photobucket of the snowfall when it hit

Heres the start of Snowfall and my old jeep is buried on the back right. I fired it up and backed out with no pre shoveling etc. I was impressed with that. I will get more pics up.

I have a buddy at work that really likes his Yokohamas. They're not priced too bad, either. I might try them next.
