Title: Hearing Protection
Post by: Willieva on February 10, 2026, 08:54:17 PM
I'm looking for some recommendations for hearing protection ideas. I'm starting to think the best way to turkey hunt is to go without, but as a musician and music lover the thought of losing my hearing (or even not hearing as well as I do) is a tough pill to swallow.

Last year I tried Walker's and had a tough time. They lack a nuanced sense of direction that left me wondering where the bird was gobbling from. I also had a tough time calling in them because it just sounded different coming through the headphones. If I try to put them, or any other kind of protection, on when I get eyes on a bird that runs the risk of me getting busted.

I'm wondering if y'all have recommendations for a better set of electronic hearing protection that sounds more natural. Any other techniques to protect hearing are also welcome!

Protection from gunshots can be done with some earplugs that allow hearing and block the shot out.  Lots of brands out there. I wouldn't put them in until the bird was moving in, but if you want enhancement AND some protection from a gunshot, Tetra.  Costly but great.
