Title: Remington 11-87 realtree xtra brown
Post by: Amt217 on November 29, 2025, 09:21:05 PM
Hello,
I'm new to the site but hoping to gain some info on my Remington 11-87. I have an 11-87 in realtree xtra brown, I know that they were only available for one year in 1997 and stamped special purpose. The odd part is my receiver is not stamped "special purpose" but it has the 21 inch barrel with the right Remington turkey choke and the serial number is correct for the year. It appears to be the factory camo not refinished. Has anyone ever come across one without the special purpose stamp?

Not sure really what all "special purpose" indicates , but I've got an older one,12 GA,  non camo, matte finish 26" Bbl, 3" chamber, and wood stock.

Is your gun 3" chamber?

Remington made 2 levels of 11-87

Field grade, was glossy finish stock polished bluing.
Special Purpose, matte finish wood and a Parkerized receiver and barrel.

There were many variations within those levels, but that is the basics of the line.

Yes it is chambered in 3 inch. Sorry I didn't word my question correctly, but I was curious if any one has ever come across one in realtree xtra brown meeting all the spec to be a special purpose model but not stamped anywhere on the gun special purpose.
Thanks for all the responses

I've seen the Realtree Extra brown in the Special Purpose 870, not the 1187. They made very few of the 870's, I'm sure the 1187's were also limited production. You have a good one there for sure.

Probably was an exclusive production run for a specific gun distributor.  They do that kind of stuff all the time for large distributors.
