Title: M3020 stock choke
Post by: cwhitfield96 on May 25, 2025, 05:39:53 PM
Pattern at 40 yds with stock choke and apex 9's. Trying to decide if I should get a different choke and which one for a better pattern. Getting about 170-180 in 10". (https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20250525/d6ffe468d9f157a28314d959dbea5c29.jpg)

Save your money and move your pattern to the right.

It's definitely hunt able. I moved it right after the 20 shot and did a click after my last shot which is the first one posted. Was just hoping to have a little tighter group at that yardage. Winchester longbeard had about the same pattern with 5's at 40. I see some people getting 300 in a 10" with a 20 gauge.

300 in the 10 can be done with a 20, but I wouldn't say it's the norm.  I don't own a stoger so I can recommend chokes or shells for the gun.  However, 250ish should be achievable fairly easy and is alot more common for the 20s.

Any choke in the .562 - .575 range should produce a good hunting pattern with apex 9s.

I got about the same pattern as you with the new Stoeger M3020 turkey edition 22" barrel with Federal 1.5 oz #9s with factory turkey choke, I saw where another guy shot Indian Creek 555 with Fed 9s and got 346 in 10" circle at 30 yds,It is posted in tss patterns.

That's the same gun I am shooting. Did a bunch of research and ordered an anaconda .570. Thought the pattern looked maybe over constricted. If that doesn't work I will get a IC.555 or SumToy .562. Have seen different answers on what the size the factory extra full is.

that would be me and yes with an indian creek .555.   I never tried 40 yrd on paper but i did kill one at 45 no problem.    Never even shot that factory choke You can defiantly hunt it but you'll do better with the IC or a Sumtoy.
