Finally, I'm on the board and get to tell the story.
A few weeks ago, I was getting stir crazy. Everyone telling stories and living it up. I couldn't take it anymore. A buddy of mine in Ohio said I should come down and hunt. Well, don't threaten me with a good time. So, April 26, I drove down. Next day was a nice, cool, beautiful morning. I was expecting birds to be burning down the woods. I was sadly mistaken. Hunted hard until 11:40 without hearing a single gobble. Fast forward to yesterday, May 4th. Thought it was going to be a complete replay of the week before. Weather wasn't great, and as expected, nothing talking. Waited until 9, and it was time to switch it up. Went to a different property and ended up seeing a lone gobbler on a hilltop, screaming into a bottom, looking for love. Using the terrain, we found a place to setup up, which was still a distance away, but I was nervous to get closer, because it was an old wide open pasture. Made some calls and he was answering everything, but was staying on the hilltop. It sounded like he was moving down it away from us. Off to the races we went, and ran across the field to get to the same hilltop. There was a huge cluster of brush we could setup in, and as soon as we got there, he ripped a gobble within 70 yards. 2 series of light yelps, and I saw his head coming through the tall grass. He made his way into 25 yards, and that's all she wrote.
You'll have to read zsully's story to hear about this morning in PA.
