Title: Need help with 835 recoil pad
Post by: Borden811 on April 28, 2025, 09:45:42 PM
Hey guys. Recently ran across a gun I've been looking for forever. Found one of the OG mossberg 835s with the 24" barrel, skinny round ribbed forearm, and the realtree brown leaf camo. Does anyone have any idea what aftermarket recoil pad fits it(preferably a Simms of some variety). I bought the one listed for the 835 on Simms website, but the holes don't line up, and the pad itself is quite a bit larger than the stock. I'm guessing the early synthetic stocks were a smaller size than the current 835s. Anyone have any experience with this, or any helpful info?

Had the same problem with a 90's 835 Mossy Oak Treestand Turkey gun. Just can't find a match for some reason. Good luck...

They very well may be, but that's almost more than I paid for the gun, lol. I'm just looking for something that's a little more forgiving than the brick that's on the gun currently.

I had to buy a recoil pad that was sanded to fit. You can do it on a belt sander if you are not concerned about it looking perfect.

Pachmayr makes pads that are not too expensive and they have templates on their website you can print out to see what size you need.

I have an 835 and it has a hollow butt stock.  I put the 10201 on it.  Not sure what number you have tried.  Here is the dimensions and hole placement from website.  If this is the one you have, a slip on or a grind to fit maybe your only option.

I needed one replaced on an old side x side shotgun and I took it to my local gunsmith and in about 3 weeks he called and had it ready... My old side x side had a vintage red pad and that's what I wanted him to replace it with and it was a grind to fit and looks great...

Go to mossberg website and buy , you need the measurement of the screws to get the right pad for that gun. I have the same gun and could not find one that was aftermarket without getting a grind to fit.

You can buy a pre-fit pad from Limbsaver and probably other vendors. I cut an inch or so off my stock so I had to used a grind to fit pad.

I bought a Pachmyar recoil pad and sanded it down with a belt sander. The key is making sure you order the right size pad because they have a steel reinforcement ring in the pad base. If you order a pad that too large, you will hit the steel and not be able to take anymore material off. You can download a template from their website so you know what size pad to order.

I just trace the outline of the stock size plus a 1/16 or so on the back of the pad and then sand off the edges. You can screw the pad to a piece of wood so you can control the pad better while grinding. I then put the pad on the gun and finish sanding.

I have also used a stone grinder wheel before but the finish is  rough and it makes a mess.

This is the pad I like the best. There is no way to make an 835 pleasant to shoot but this pad helped some.

Just went through this with a newer 835 that I wanted to add some lop to. That kz103 from kickeez didn't fit. Had to use a grind to fit pad. Ended up not liking it so swapped to a magpul stock. Haven't been out to shoot it yet but it feels good to me.

Same problem, emailed Mossberg and they sent a link to one that would fit but they were always out of stock. I ended up putting a slip on pad on ut

I had the same problem with my 1993 Mossy Oak Treestand 835. I ended up with a Limbsaver that is a little big on the bottom corner, does the job well though, fits flush all around except the bottom corner.
