Title: State of the contest
Post by: FullChoke on April 24, 2025, 04:54:39 PM
We are presently sitting in 4th place behind Killer B's with 7 birds for 411 points, GOATS with 8 birds for 459 and Scattered Flock with 8 birds for 485. These teams are nearing the end of their major score additions. Once they hit 9 birds on the books, increases are reduced substantially. They can only add 1 or 2 more till they hit the ceiling. We are in the position to add 3 more full scores to the team score prior to hitting the ceiling. We have a number of northern hunters who haven't even been to the woods yet, but that time is coming.

Hunt diligently, safely and shoot the big bird. This is our contest to win, again.

Cheers  ;D

I started hunting WV this week.  Would have had one few days ago if he would have flew down in front of me instead of behind. Lol

Also had gun up and safety off on a Jake that gobbled great but he got a pass when I couldn't see any spurs.      Going back down in morning so maybe tomorrow will be my day for my first WV bird.

Got a big fat zero in WV M-T-W in WV.  No action.  Worst time ever in WV.

Yeah, I feel your pain.  Friday I hunted MD's first day and heard 2 longbeards both on private and both got shot.  I called in 6 jakes though.  Sat (youth day WV) never heard a bird, Sunday in MD never heard a bird, Monday 1st day WV never heard a bird.  Wed WV heard 4 messed up on a longbeard that came in behind me and called in a Jake later in day. Today went to WV only heard one gobble 4 times but he was on private.

Plan on sleeping in tomorrow if it is raining.  Maybe go to WV Sunday.  There are birds out there but they are not gobbling at all.  This long cold winter has them behind on breeding.  I think the last week of the season will be better than the first this year in WV and MD.

Yes, we have the strong advantage now, and we can simply shut this contest down with (3) 60 point birds. Not a hill at all for this clan of Champion heavy hitters!

Cheers  ;D
