Not as good as for you bro. Very nice bird today. Im looking for his little brother or cousin in 9 days in NH. Possibly 6 days if I can swing a Maine hunt.  Z

Minnesota allows hunters to pick which week they would like to hunt and then we get to hunt 10 more days at the end of May if your tag is still unfilled. I find that the state is overflowing with turkeys, and yet they only allow you to shoot 1 per season. They may get a little more generous with the limit in the future, but for now that's it. I took the week of May 7th through the 13th. I will really need to get a bird that week as I am scheduled for eye surgery on the 15th.

Congrats on some dandies Roost1. I'll be heading back out in about 2 weeks. Slim chance I could kill one around home between now and then. Going to mostly be hunting mountains so the chance of an upgrade is not going to be good.

My hunt here in MN starts on May 1st for me. I was in SD last week and the birds put a whooping on me. I'm going back there starting this Thursday looking for some revenge!

Got a Gobbler out in SD over the weekend. The problem with most Merriams is that they don't score very high, but they are fun to hunt! He only scores a whooping 50, but at least that should help our team score out for now until I either get an Eastern that scores higher or one of my teammates here bumps him out! I'll get him posted up tomorrow. I'll be hunting here in MN starting this Thursday afternoon thru the weekend.

Bill,

We are in position to be able to win with almost ANY adult bird at this point. By all means score, photograph and post your bird, my brother. The time has come to push to the front of the pack and put this game completely out of reach.

Cheers  ;D

Two days, miles walked, calls made...no response. I will be heading out there this afternoon to catch him without hens. An old adage that has served me well through the years - If he gobbles at you in the afternoon, he will die.

Had to take a few days off because sometimes life gets in the way. Back at it Monday morning. Going back to a spot that probably has the best listening spot in the township but was dead silent last week.

I would put money on there being an xarcher based post with photos of the dearly departed on here in the very near future. I know that this bird's days are numbered and he's living on borrowed time. Give him the pill, X!

Another rough week.  Only one day without rain but made it out 4 days.  The one clear, cool and calm day heard one gobble off the reservation.  And that is the good news.

Wednesday afternoon I was watching a cut corn field across a dirt road from where I can hunt.  Watched one step into the 50 acre field from the far tree line about 200 yards away or so.  Proceeded to feed my way.  Directly towards me.  I'm sitting in the woods about 30 yards from the road and just when he gets ready to cross the road, a van drives by and off he goes never to be seen again.  This was the only vehicle that passed by in the 3 hours I was sitting there, and it came by within a few minutes of that bird at the end of my barrel.

Wednesday morning it rained hard until 9:00 so I hunted a spot near a roosting site until 12:00 then had to leave to take care of some business.  When I passed by that spot on my way the afternoon debacle, there were fresh gobbler tracks within 10 steps of where I was sitting earlier.

Back at again in the morning.

Close ain't even close to a fair description for what you have been experiencing, my brother. I believe that soon, and very soon, he is going to see the King, right after you engage the trigger mechanism of that 20 gauge.

Just do it.

Cheers  ;D
