From Craigsville all the way to Giles from 17th-19th... only heard 2 gobbles from roost. Tons of sign so I know they are there but this is the worst case of lock jaw I've seen. Is it just me or did they stop acting like turkeys last week in the VA mountains?
Hunted 5 days in the va mountains this year and covered close to 30 miles on my boots and never heard a gobble, very disappointed to say the least
VA mountains were tough this year. Spent 5 days there and it was some of the hardest hunting I've seen in years. Friends and family there echoed that sentiment.
Coons and foxes are exploding in the areas we hunt. It's all public land and when they close off the gates, it makes trapping next to impossible.

I wondered if the hurricane had any affect on them, there was a ton of storm damage in the areas I was in. I've been hunting Up there the past couple of years and have had decent hunting weather depending but it was awful this year

Could have been part of it. We didn't see any storm damage where we were though.
Weather wasn't perfect, but I've certainly seen worse.
Pressure wasn't the problem because I saw less trucks than normal.
I'm left with just predators. Did see a clutch with 10 last week. So they're making turkeys, I just don't think many are making it to gobbling age.

I did have a coyote sneak in on me the last day I was up there so it's possible that's the main issue
