I picked up a older Remington 870 the other day and it came with a Truglo TG150 .665 choke. Would TSS be safe to try outta this choke? I've tried some 3in Longbeard XR #5 outta it and some of the Federal 3rd Degree blended loads. The federal did decent at 32 yards with 130 in a 10.5 circle but nice uniformed pattern. The longbeards was hit or miss. One would pattern decent and the next wouldn't. I had three boxes of them left over from 3 or 4 years ago so believe could be the problem with them.
I've been running a 410 the last few seasons shooting Apex but couldn't pass up on a 21in barreled 870.
Are you worried about the choke or gun? Either way why not contact the manufacturers for info. That'd surely know better than anyone.
In my personal opinion, idk why anyone would waste tss in a 12 ga. That being said hope it works out for you

Not worried about running TSS in the gun, just wondering if the choke could handle it.
I did send a email to TruGlo but haven't heard nothing yet. From what I could find on the choke it was made back in the late 90s and rated for hevi shot.

They'll get back to you I bet. If not call em
I'll bet you get a whishy washy answer written by an attorney if any answer at all. This is a litigious society. Let us know.
Haven't seen any discussions involving bulged barrels and frozen chokes in years. The good old days. The duck hunter's switch from lead to steel to bismuth to TSS did a number on some old chokes.
IIRC, those Bansners were lead only chokes. I have one out in the shop. I reached out to truglo years ago when hevishot was "new" and they did not recommend hevi. I doubt they would say yes to something other than lead.

I did the same and they told me it was fine. I shot hundreds of heavy shot through my banser truglo. Probably one of my favorite chokes. They had quit a following back in the day. I have one for every gun I have. I'd shoot TSS out of mine. Actually I probably have.
Never heard nothing back from them but it shoots the Federal 3rd Degree good enough at 40 so I'm running with it.
Sure did mow this East TN mountain bird over at 38 yards earlier today.
10.25 beard
1 1/4 spur
Nice bird congrats.
Nice one Henry
Congratulations
