Was talking to a fellow tonight. He had just bought a new Mossy Oak Woodsman strap vest. (It's made of oiled cotton cloth.)
Well..... He had 2 strikers in the vest's striker sleeve. When he pulled them out, they wouldn't run. The oil from the fabric had absorbed into the strikers.
He e-mailed Mossy Oak and got a short reply that they'd notify the design team.....
So, buyer beware on this one. Your $250 just MAY be better spent elsewhere.
Hate to hear that mine just showed up today. I was saving it for down the road. Maybe it will dry over time

Might wanna look into some cigar tubes or something to protect your strikers.
Not knowing exactly how the vest is built, could there also be issues with the oil getting on to the playing surfaces of friction calls ?? May wanna look into that.
I thought the same thing about pot calls. Really it could get on any call you had in your vest.
I am going to call them today and more than likely send it back. I had no idea it was oil cloth.

when you call about that return ask them why they didnt just put cloth striker pockets on them like the vest they copied.
No joke. I don't know why they don't just make one similar to the Dixon vest. That is the best vest I have ever used. All they need to do is add a better seat cushion.
By pure blind luck I bought 3 for 1/2 off at a local sporting goods store at the end of the season whatever year they were sold.
I never thought you could use a turkey vest for 15 years and it be worth more than you bought it for

when you are wanting to part with one shoot me a message!
I only have the one I hunt with. One went to my brother and another went to a close friend. You have to remember I had no idea what I had until several years later. Hindsight I would have bought everyone the store had. They were all on the 1/2 off rack outside the store by the front door.

Wow, unfortunately I sold my Dixon years ago, but I replaced it with the Fox vest. Very well made, so much it's a bit heavy, but very similar to the Dixon with a few tweaks. Very solid vest with a comfortable seat like the Dixon. Yoder, thanks for pointing out that problem with the new vest...

Stuff like this reminds me why I still wear my 30 plus year old vest.
Thank you for the heads up. I was contemplating
Whether I wanted to get this or not.

I just took mine out of the package. It really does not feel waxy to me.
All of the pockets are lined with non oil cloth material except for one side of the box call holder and one side of the striker holders but you can see where some of the wax seeped through to the pockets.
I am just going to hang mine in a closet and let it dry out some.(https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20250403/1bdeb9b66f0b757a2d473030b6e8ecf0.jpg)

I love my Filson's waxed pants for field duck hunting up north. They are 15 years old, never retouched the wax and they still repel water like the first day I used them (15 years of caked mud and dirt may play a role in that though). Not sure the vest will ever dry out. Would be curious to see if it does.
Been looking at this vest. Thanks for the heads up.

Yeah, mine has not had any issue like this at all and is not oily inside any of the pockets.
