Pulling these pics was an emotional walk down memory lane. Here are a few of my favorites of my daughter's birds. Great thread by the way!

This is probably my all time favorite. The utter shock and disbelief she had after shooting her first bird at 8yrs old. The shakes and tears didn't stop for about 15 minutes. I turned around and took her picture as she walked up to her bird.

now THIS^^^^^^^^^ is the type of NEW HUNTER RECRUITMENT we need to be focusing our efforts on. Great job to all you guys. I can't wait to take my little future turkey hunters when they get older.
Some great photos posted!
I really enjoy seeing people share their experiences in a positive way.
Here are my favorites
These are of my oldest at 11 years old (currently 14), when she killed her first turkey. Determined to get a bird, she went out on multiple hunts covering lots of ground, with lots of close calls before finally getting a chance.

These photos go back a few years to an adventure with my youngest at 5 years old (currently 12)... This was one of the most bizarre and funny hunts I have been on, and the fact that I was able to kill a bird on this hunt is nothing short of extradinary. After buggering a couple other birds with some hilarious excapades, we were on the back of my truck laughing & eating a snack, she was playing with my turkey calls and some birds answered...
We made a move on them, behind a large tree fall, and they were just over the hill (about 60 yards)... They came all the way around (taking 45 minutes which is an eternity with a 5 year old), to our exposed side... 3 jakes and a tom, all grouped together so I could NOT get a shot at 20 yards. Daughter was struggling to stand up, kicking and squirming. I was holding her down with one hand, gun on the birds with the other... Finally they caught her struggling, and the tom broke from the crowd giving me a shot...
After the shot, when I asked why she was struggling so hard, she informed me that she had a bag of peanuts to feed them and get them closer... Second photo is of her trying to feed the harvested bird some grass...

Fantastic Marc!!
Quote from: kytrkyhntr on March 14, 2025, 12:44:14 PMFantastic Marc!!
Thank you!
Most important things I learned about taking a younger child hunting... Waterproof SNOWBOOTS and good gloves/mittens. For what I considered mild and comfortable temperatures, their hands/feet always get VERY cold. Snowboots made a huge difference in comfort!
I am looking forward to seeing more great posts on this thread!!!

Great pics! Thanks for sharing.
I am unwilling to crop the picture of my one, and only successful turkey hunt down. The cigar is so big, that by the time I have it downsized small enough to post, the turkey is gone.

One of my favorite birds. He bossed a trio of toms around for a few days. When I got in the right place, two shakes of a gobble shaker brought him running, beard swinging back and forth straight to his demise.
Nothing like the relaxed enjoyment of a beautiful mountain morning after a successful hunt (it was a little too early to break out the real celebratory stuff... ;D )

Then 2 Lowcountry gobblers taken with one shot (back in the day when gobblers were plentiful and it was legal).

Eastern with a "young-un"
The pup was played out when I got back with the turkey. He had a lot of interest in it but just ran out of gas and fell asleep.

That's a great picture, but that turkey liver gives me the heebie jeebies. I tried frying a fresh one one in bacon grease once, first bite I almost threw up on my stove top.
Heart;good
Liver;bad
Gizzard;good for turkey jewels and nothing more
