wanting to try a holographic sight on my 20ga 11-87 but it isn't drilled for a base so I'm "thinking' about trying one of the rib mounts. anyone have any experience with them. I had my 870 20ga drilled and tapped but having a hard time committing to doing it to the 11-87.
thanks in advance
meadow creek is nice. friend of mine swears by it

X2, have a few of these set-ups. Works fantastic!
thanks for the replies. does it have any effect on eye relief considering it would be farther away from the end of the receiver?
None on a reflex sight.

I have a Meadow Creek Mount with an AT3 Tactical ARO reflex on my 20 gauge and its amazing. Killed 2 birds with it last year and have had no issues at all. Shooting 3" TSS #9's

Does it matter how close or far away from the receiver it is ?
I've actually preferred the sight picture on the rib over the receiver. Further away seems to allow me to really see everything around me. I did add a piece to the stock to raise the comb for a better cheek weld. Other than that, she's lights out.

I actually like it out on the rib versus the receiver. Allows a better sight picture as the bird comes in, you have a greater field of view being able to look around the sight with moving your head...
I have both and have no problems switching between the two. I shoot just as well with either mount. Personally, I prefer it on the receiver if the gun is tapped but that is just me. I like the rib well enough that I haven't sent that gun to be tapped.
Warne makes a nice one that clamps to the rib, it's new... I have both Meadow creek and Warne optic and I like the Warne better ...
I have limited experience with a Meadow Creek and from the little bit I have, I like it.
I have a meadow creek and like it.
With that being said, out of the last 10 turkey I have shot only 1 has been with the meadow creek and red fot sight. I like my bead guns more. But I shoot a shotgun alot from shooting sporting plays, dove, ducks and turkey. The bead is second nature to me.

the warne one is pretty nice, very straight forward, but if you have to use the small screw holes to mount your sight, those threads are very soft. crazy soft. Don't ask me how I know. I would choose the meadow creek myself

I didn't have that problem myself ...
I like the meadow creek and the Swampfox sight I got was a good price. Overall I really like the mount and complete set up.
thanks for all the replies everyone. I did some searching and found out that 4 different manufactures offer this type of rib mount and, TRUGLO is one of them. As luck (bad luck) would have it, I recently acquired a credit from TRUGLO that will cover the price of their universal shotgun rib mount so one is headed my way. I'll explain how I got that credit in another post in a few days.
again, thank you all
I've used Meadow Creek Mounts on my 11-87 20-gauge, and my SP-10, for several years now and very happy with them.
Drill and tap it.
Much more secure, easier to mount and you're not stressing your ventilated rib.
Rib mounts on shotguns remind me of seeing someone reel a spinning reel upside down.

now that's funny
The meadow creek / burris package deal came today. Initial thoughts .... it will work.
Easy setup
It does look a little funny mounted out that far, but it is great for hunting situations.
Go back-and-forth between receiver mounted and rib mounted sights and when the turkeys is there both work great.
+1 for the Warne rib mount here. I haven't had any issues with mine on my 12ga.

Definitely goofy looking but effective and no need to send of a gun for tapping!

Recieved and installed my meadow creek a couple weeks ago....so far I like it. It's not turkey season yet .... that will be the true test

^^^
Having done both receiver and rib mount, I actually prefer the rib mount.
