Title: West Virginia Scouting?
Post by: CT Spur Collector on March 05, 2025, 02:22:49 PM
How's the scouting going in West Virginia?

Was you winter as tough as other areas of the northeast?  Very cold overnight temps?

Been seeing some decent sized winter flocks in north central region. We had a few extremely cold stretches this winter but are having some milder and above average temperatures right now. Then again, it's WV. We can experience all four seasons within a week!! Yesterday it was 72 degrees and sunny. Tomorrow's high is 35 with small chance of snow.

That's music to my ears since I haven't seen anything where I'm at in north central WV.

Good to know there's turkeys somewhere in the region even if not where I am.

I'm not sure what you guys in West Virginia had this winter but I will say anyone planning on hunting Southwestern Virginia this year, be prepared for major tree damage. The ice storms have been crazy this year in certain parts of that area of the state. I hunt lots of places where pines and hardwoods grow along the roads we walk up and it's been a major challenge cleaning it up. I'm dreading some places I haven't even been to yet because I know it will be a drastic change from last year. Also, flooding. Lots of places in southwestern Virginia has had some major flooding on several occasions. Add that to the declining population in this area of Virginia and it could result in some tough sledding. I haven't seen any turkeys while out driving in a good while either.

Last few years on opening day, some bad weather, cold and high winds in Preston, Taylor and Barbour..... any news from those counties?
