Title: Back to the drawing board
Post by: misfire on July 28, 2011, 01:05:58 PM
It took me a while to actually learn how to properly turn a piece of wood. Got with a professional who showed me some techniques that almost negated sanding. Well, now I have tackled a different animal altogether, CORIAN. I am beginning to believe that Corian is a Swahili word for DONT DO THIS!!!!! That stuff is as hard as woodpecker lips :goofball:.  It only took me two days to turn this one, started figuring out some things toward the end that should help on the next one. Once it is turned and sanded, it looks great

RUN???????? Faster????? :toothy12: Towards the end I laid down my gouge and used a skew. That seemed to work better. Tomorrow I will use a scraper

I use fingernail bowl gouges and it cuts pretty good, but you will have to sharpen often. The one nice thing is that it sands great. I usually wet sand it up to 1000 grit and then use a car polish to finish it off. That call turned out great though.  :icon_thumright:
