I'm looking into a trip next spring for Rios. I've read a few posts on here regarding Oklahoma hunting. I have a few friends in the Northeast OK area near Tahlequah. I checked the Oklahoma website for various public hunting/WMA. They listed a few areas and populations for turkey, low-moderate etc, and the species of Eastern to Rios. To shorten the learning curve, and seeing as there are some Okies already on the board, I'm looking for some advice/help in planning this. I'd really like to gun for Rios this spring. I'm planning on bringing my son to accompany me after he got his first bird, an Eastern, this spring. Hopefully he is hooked now.
Any help would be greatly appreciated. Feel free to PM if you would like. Thanks much.
I think Rios are in the western 2/3 of the state, definitely the western half.
Check out Packsaddle and Black Kettle WMA's. But be there for the opener and plan on seeing some folks. Be prepared to walk and you can get on some early.

I have found the folks in Oklahoma to be about as friendly and helpful as you would ever want to meet. We have had landowners stop to ask us what we were doing,....and then write out a permission slip to hunt their land right on the spot, without us even asking for that permission! You can't beat people like that!
