Title: What TSS #9 shells are working for you?
Post by: mcw3734 on February 15, 2025, 10:53:12 PM
While it has lost the starter job as my primary turkey gun, I still keep my SP-10 patterned and available. I'm using Nitro #7.5 TSS and happy with the patterns, but when I run out of those shells I plan to explore other shot sizes and brands.

For 10-gauge TSS folks using #9 shot: What brand are you using? What choke is working best for you?

You'd be crazy to use TSS in a 10ga and you might get few responses.
Stuff is expensive and too expensive imo to use a whole bunch in a 10 or 12 ga. Good luck if you try it.

Apex, Salt Creek, some new guys coming out with loads this year. Nothing crazy about shooting the most ethical and effective loads out of a 12 or 10

When I use my NEF 10, its loaded with Nitro 8s.  It performs as expected.  Lots of pellets down range.

Seems like Foxtrot is a bad word around here but he has some 10ga in stock right now.

Appreciate the input everybody.

Anybody have any choke suggestions for shooting #9 TSS out of their 10-gauge?

I'm getting great patterns using a Trulock .700, non-ported, but... that's with #7.5

I use a .700 Sumtoy choke in my 10 and after experimenting with other sizes TSS 8 is what I believe to be the optimal shot size in 10 Ga.

Sattie's is starting to load 10 gauge. I have three boxes of 7's coming.

I bought a new BPS last year and it came Indiana Creek 690 and 710 chokes hopefully one will work.

I'll take a look.  But I just get the Federal tss choke.  I believe mine are for federal 7's but they work equally well with 9's.

I knocked the dust of my SP10 yesterday with some Apex 9 shot.  All I can say is holy smokes, I was totally blown away with the patterns! This is my first ever time shooting TSS out of any guage turkey gun. I still have some Federal HW 7'S and when that is finished, I will buy more TSS 9 Shot.  I was using a Kicks gobbling thunder choke .690 constriction.

Rob Roberts .680 choke tube shoots Verdict TSS # 8 real well. Also nice pattern with Double XX Winchesters #5.

Good info. I haven't tried any tss in my 10 yet, but I have shot the old Hevi shot Remington loads, and they were devastating on turkey. I can only imagine what a good tss load would do!
