Title: Evening for the birds
Post by: Old Timer on October 18, 2024, 10:26:23 AM
A buddy and I were in stands last evening deer hunting over acorns. The birds were coming thru feeding. I saw a few mature hens then to my right 3 nice Tom's! The toms were clucking. Hens were yelping. I got a couple to respond with voice calling. We were in an area that traditionally  has held birds but the pass few years has been very thin. Season closed 3 days ago and probably  wouldn't of hunted them anyway because of smaller population. To top it off the boss hen called her polts in before fly up. Witnessed nature at it's  best. Good day!

That's awesome. I love seeing birds and watching them do their thing in the fall. I usually hunt a time or two in Virginia's two week "winter season".

Sounds like maybe the bird population may be increasing in your spot, so that's a wonderful sign!
