Title: Fall Gobblers in Northern AZ
Post by: Lou2024 on August 13, 2024, 12:16:35 PM
Morning, I am new to turkey hunting and drew a fall tag in Northern Arizona, which will be for Merriam turkeys. With this being a fall hunt and the number of tags issued I am sure there will be heavy pressure on public land and I trying to optimize my success of harvesting a gobbler.  I've been told by many to just drive the dirt roads use a locator call, find signs and even busting up a flock if seen, but with the limited number of access roads and then number of hunters this sounds problematic and surely not the type of hunting I want to partake. So plan B, is to locate signs and get away from the pressure or use other hunters in pressuring the turkeys to my location. Here is my question, what is the best type of mouth call, box call or pot call to sound like a Gobbler?

Welcome aboard. I typically use a Denny Gulvas 4 reed mouth call, Twisting Creek or Marlin Watkins long box and have added a Roger Parks gobbler pot. Hope this helps

Welcome. Donny Richards makes a fine Gobbler Box. I plan on hitting the woods with it this Fall.

I also have a Donny Richards box and may carry it on the first couple hunts this fall. They sound great for gobbler yelps. I have also added a Permar Gobbler Trumpet and plan to carry it this fall and winter season.
