Title: Dodge Truck 3.7 V-6?
Post by: Spring Creek Calls on July 21, 2011, 07:40:14 AM
Does anyone have any thoughts/experience with the 3.7 V-6 that Dodge uses in it's full size pickups? Any info would be appreciated!

I just found out that you can't get a Dodge 1500 4X4 with the V-6. Good news is the 4.7 V-8 is a good engine with pretty good gas mileage. I was thinking about a reg cab, short box plain jane 4X4. Try to find one of those on a dealer lot!

From what I've heard, the 5.7 Hemi gets the same or almost the same mileage as the 4.7, but it has a lot more power.  It probably gets its mileage boost from shutting down half its cylinders at highway speeds, I'm guessing...

I had the Dodge Dakota and just sold it to a friend at work, it was the 4.7 with four wheel drive and the heavy duty tow package. Great rig no issues for me and the mileage was not bad. I tried to see try out what I wanted here in WA state and most lots did not have any and those that did had one only. Went to Dave Smith Motors in Kellogg Idaho and we had over twenty to test drive and they were very competitive on price. Then they also delivered for a reasonable fee if you could not get there. They do have a web site if you are interested. Good luck!

I have one in a plain-Jane 2008, but you are right, they don't make a 4X4 with the 6. I use the truck in my business, so didn't need 4 wheel capability. Those I have talked to with the hemi get as good or better mileage than I do. Of course, they probably paid $10,000 more for their truck than I did mine. Neill
