:TooFunny: Love it!...although I am pretty certain a few folks here are probably researching exactly what a "haiku" is... If I hadn't had to write them for high school English class fifty-five years ago, I know I would be... :D ;D

I recall also have to write Haikus for English. Actually I should say trying to write a Haiku. If I remember there were rules on how they had to be formed.

Lol, thanks GobbleNut. I know it's goofy, but hey, I'm a little off.
Beats watching the crap on TV these days.

LOL. I didn't write one in English, I barely survived high school!
Thank God for girls!
Back then I could contract an English assignment for ONE dollar.
Wonder what it would cost now with inflation?
Need one turkey call

I wish I would have known you back then I would have gladly paid the dollar as I could not write a haiku. I have absolutely no artistic talents
The following haiku has been rated "M" for mature audiences only.

A silent shadow
Ferocious intensity
Something's not right, left
Roosted one last night
Slip silent indigo dawn
Set up at tree, splat
Tiny Chinese bees
Huddled in a yellow hive
Click and send the swarm
Bittersweet ending
Sun sets on an untouched roost
Eleven more months

Life, death, life again
A head turns to hear better
The circle is intact
Rained three days ago
Have walked all the roads today
Only my tracks show up
In dawn's quiet hush,
Hunter waits, breath held, alert,
Gobble echoes near.

Summer approaches
Dawn's silence reveals the lull
One more season past
Laughing on the branch
Unknowing of the danger
A predator waits
Sneaking in the dark
I need twenty five more steps
Now I am ready
A question is posed
An answer received
The heart races
Carefully prepared
I'm having a friend for lunch
Spit out tungsten shot
Bronze Renaissance nudes

My vest is heavy
My quarry has been beaten
Sadness comes over me
Three days left to hunt
I may be eating a tag
What a great season
Turkeys getting scarce
We need to stick together
Or we will be lost
Rain falls on closed eyes
He dreams of meadows, poults and
Their lovely mother
I hunt him for thrill
I gift the meat from my kill
Respect is not mine

Honey, it's opening day!
How bout the 25th?
Honey, it's the last day!
Saving best for last
Planning my foes last fly down

Seeking a trophy
I need not a corpse to win
If he shows I win
Upgrade for my team
For I am the weakest link
I need sixty two
I sip my coffee
Pondering about nature
And turkeys of course
My season is done
As I am packing my gear
A sadness fills me
One more day to hunt
I need my foe to gobble
I will do my part

My vest is empty
My gear has been put away
I miss my old foe
Split is the fall flock
Within minutes kee-kees start
Turkeys everywhere
I wait patiently
I hear my adversary
Or is he my friend
Winter months pass slow
Spring feeling so far away
Snow upon the roost
Excited for spring
The biting wind saddens me
Dreams of gobbling
Noisy in the tree
Anticipation is high
Quiet on the ground
A wintertime flock
Scratching through icy snowfall
Finds the first green shoot
To an old friend no longer here, and his first spring turkey I called and watched him tag.....
Browning, paper hulls
Three long beards sprint to be first
Nothing can compare
A new year is here
Springtime is getting closer
Patiently we wait

The Hunt:
Where, when, how, how much?
A Prudhomme, Buice, KP touch...
Gobblers are easy
Snow melt, ice breaking
Days lengthening, sun feels warm
Its soon upon us
Contrary to birds.
Turkey men fly south in spring.
Filled tags migrate north.
I traverse darkness
setup tree now just ahead
Flap Flap Flap, heart break
Sunrise burns the fog,
I hear the gobblers calling,
The challenge begins.
Pitch black, I am here
My foe is being silent
Please gobble, I wait
Hoot, Caw Caw and Howl.
Better off if I shut up.
I just can't, Gobble.

I'm only a few years older than you and never heard of a haiku in school. Must be a southwestern (NM) thing as opposed to northeast (PA) thing.
Wind bending treetops
"Turkeys shut up in the wind"
Fanned feathers rustle.
Daybreak arriving
Whippoorwills sense nighttime's end
Roost branch rattling
Spring sun sparkles clear
Dogwood petal, mouse's ear
Cluck, periscope up
Big bird on my shoulder
Long walk back to the pickup
Why is my butt wet?
Call soft being coy
Stay quiet, search for the sound
Shuffle of the leaves
Seeking my quarry
He is eerily quiet
I will outlast him
Hung up out of sight
A cavernous void between
Quiet and he'll come
Fresh tracks in the snow
The arrows point to one thing
The nest where he hatched
Still in the darkness
I wonder if he is near
Booming gobble, yess
I'm impressed,
Some of you guys
are really good at this
Haiku stuff,
me, not so much...

GN,
Come on and try it. The rules for haiku are simple - 5 syllables in the first line, 7 syllables in the second line and 5 in the third line. They don't have to rhyme. Generally haiku verse paints a picture with inspiration drawn from nature, but we take certain liberties around here.
FC
Haikus not for all
Turkeys really don't care much
Just kill them when can
Shelter from the storm
Watch the leaves shiver and drip
Rich smell of wet earth.
Dark shape in dawn's light
Stop, peck, periscope, steps to
My dark, shadowed shape
Waiting for my chance
I know he will be around
Will this be the day
A hunter killer
Silently the owl glides by
Her poults unaware
Storm flashed EKG
Exactly mirrors my own
Thundering heartbeat
I'm practicing yelps..
Sounds good but could use some helps
I'm practicing yelps..
Turkey expired
Shotgun did as expected
Now after second
magnificent he
still sitting in the tall tree
call too mucho? Si!
How spring comes alive
Paddlefish, morels, longbeards
It all ends too soon

Indigo morning
Soft footsteps, focusing eyes
Blood red dot settles
Sunrise in the morning

Gobbling in the breeze
I see many Jake's
The hens are abundant too
