Post by: slave601 on May 01, 2024, 09:13:36 PM

I had an 11-87 barrel cut down from 28in to 21in and it shoots horrible.I have several factory 21in and they shoot great. It did have to be threaded for tru choke threads so i had to buy different chokes i tried several in it couldn't ever get a decent pattern.I agree id try to find a shorter factory barrel.

I'm struggling with the same thing, can't find a 21" Remchoke 20 gauge barrel. I've gotten several recommendations for Rose Action Sports in Pembroke, KY for a cut and rethread.

I spoke with Mr. Rose about it and emailed him a photo with the dimensions of the barrel. Based on that he's pretty sure it has enough meat to cut/thread for Remchokes. I'm not excited about the possibility of Tru Chokes.

Stuart at Comp n Choke has cut down more Benelli barrels than anyone I know.

He chopped a 24" M2 barrel for me down to 19" and it shoots lights out.

Great guy who does excellent work with great turn around times.

I asked RR last year about cutting a sb2 down to a 22" and they told me no.

I have heard nothing but good things about Rose Action Sports.

Thing is a lot of light weight barrels are thin and then jugged on the end to accommodate the chokes.  If you cut them off there's not enough material to thread.

If you call Rose he will tell you if there is enough meat to cut the barrel down.

This is what Mr. Rose and I did. I called to ask him about the process/project and he told me to mic the barrel at my desired cut spot. I put the mic on it and sent him a picture with the OD measurement. He responded that the barrel was within the allowable spec for modification of that year barrel.

It's currently in his shop waiting it's turn to be worked.

Briley's does great work as well. I'm not an engineer but I think it may need additional work besides chopping and threading. Lengthening the forcing cones would be needed I think as you are changing the configuration. That's why you need a smart person to do it. I would probably try to find a compatible barrel to cut or be a backup, If I wasn't 100% sure of the outcome. Z

Brileys might be the way to go
They cut down my mag 10 many moons ago and they did an awesome job

Black River Customs in Flora, MS.  You might be close enough to drive there and meet the owner.
