After checking POA/POI this morning on my SA-28, I couldn't help but notice how much longer the TSS loads looked compared to lead loads, so I got the micrometer out. Here's the mic'd length of 4 different loads.
2-3/4" Verdict 1-5/8 oz - 2.615"
2-3/4" Federal Prairie Storm - 2.418"
2-3/4" Apex Ninja 1-3/8 oz - 2.596"
3" Hevi Shot 2 oz. - 2.539"
Note that the Verdict and Apex 2-3/4" loads are longer than the 3" Hevi Shot load. I'm guessing the roll crimp is how we're getting that extra powder and shot. Anyone have a 3" 28 gauge that could measure the length? Could this be the issue with some SA-28's not picking up the next round?(https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20240401/7255a3fc1450942bf907945de419fbd4.jpg)(https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20240401/885a03c516bff6ff6127b405605756b5.jpg)(https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20240401/f8e1277a296fe83ffcd4a4b937ed8c54.jpg)(https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20240401/2ebf2f673e96735f6d20529e2b75070f.jpg)

That 3 inch Hevishot looks like a 20 gauge cartridge.
I dont think a 28 could handle that much shot.
Be lucky if a 20 bore can. HA HA
Sure is interesting..I was reading up on the 28 thread yesterday as id like to have a SA-28 but ill stay away now..Im really curious if people with sbe 3 28ga are having issues

The 3" Hevi is a 12 gauge, used to demonstrate the length compared to a 2-3/4" 28 gauge.
Thanks. That makes more sense.
Be interesting to see the shell length after firing.
I believe the advertised length is after firing. The roll crimps would probably be taller before firing since not as much hull wall is needed to pin the overshot card. I too would be interested in the lengths after firing.

28 ga. Apex 1-3/8 Oz TSS roll crimp
28 ga. Remington 3/4 Oz lead star crimp
Nearly identical after firing.
