Have enjoyed watching the push pin kill thread so figured it would be fun to start a trumpet kill thread for 2024 season. Post the photo you have but really like the ones with just the bird and call used. Congratulations to all those that have had success and good luck to those hunting! Be safe!

I got my first trumpet kill this morning. I was using my first trumpet. Irvin Whitt African Blackwood. The trumpet turned this bird around. I was able to get him really excited with some yelps and cuts. I only gave him one last soft yelp on my mouth call.

Got this pic from one of my cousins this morning. Good to see the guys in their mid 20s out hunting. His second trumpet bird of the season.
He captioned the text "It runs in our blood!"
I let him borrow that Greg Gwaltney and another one about 3-4 years ago to try out and learn on and he has done well with them. I do remind him sometimes who actually owns them :toothy9:

Dang man, I just had to look back and see when I made this trumpet......it was one of my early ones that is for sure(~5 1/2 years ago), pretty cool to see it helping someone kill a bird.

Pretty, congrats!
This is the bird that I was blessed with yesterday!!! I have been fortunate to take a bunch of birds over my lifetime. This is the first one I have ever taken past 12 o'clock!!! Taken around 315. After some clucking on a "tongue call" and some yelps on the KP they were coming my way. Eased out the Cody slate with fighting purrs and they were in a trot, just like in the old Primos videos. He triple gobbled at 100 yards! Fellers it was awesome!!!Special thanks to a super nice guy that sent me the tongue call and old KP for bringing me the Malaysian Blackwood trumpet!!!

My second bird ever. 10.5" beard and 1 1/8 spurs. Man oh man, what a great hunt! The joker played tag with an arbitrary line in the sand for over an hour; I thought it just wasn't gonna happen.
I can't believe I've hunted for all these years and never knew how exciting a bird gobbling could be.
Congrats all you killers!!
Killed a good bird Monday not with a trumpet but my EZ wingbone. I put up a concentrated effort to get better with it and decided to hunt with it exclusively this spring. I got this bird Monday. Raised him about 150 yards out, called him in to ~75 yards, he circled but wouldn't commit...then left. When he gobbled about 100 yards or better away I laid on him with the wingbone and he came back. Met my 20 gauge TSS at 35 yards.

This was the only one of mine killed this year solely with a yelper. Yelper played a part in one other but wasn't what I'd consider the finishing call. This one, though, died to an osage XT from Anthony Ellis.

Call was made by a C McCullough as a meal ticket for his Grandson when he went off to war. War Between the States. C McCullough was a gunsmith and mountain man that made flintlock rifles in the NC mountains. Grandson was named Pvt. Artemis Pritchett, in a letter to his married sister S. Pickens he states he fed half his camp with a pair of young gobblers killed during the Mississippi campaigns. Call was carried the duration of the War, and to my knowledge is the oldest yelper type call in the country. And its just as deadly today as it was then, that I have personal testimony to

This gobbler never answered my calls but his group of hens did. I softy called from an old road through the woods. A hen responded so I stepped off the road and took a seat. She kept talking so I laid my gun down so I could hold my phone to video. She came right in and was followed by 3-4 more hens. I had no idea he was there until I glanced to the left and saw his red head. He was in full strut trailing about 20 yards behind the hens. They worked past me at 15-20 yards. When he went behind a tree I snatched up my gun and finished the deal as soon as he stepped out.

Hopefully that will turn off some people and loosen up the demand!
:thanks:
He's just rambling about someone I guess. That call was made 60+ years before any Turpin yelper or 30+ years older than the Jordan call, oldest suction type turkey call in the country. And maybe the only existing call that fed soldiers in a time of war. Plain Folk in a Rich Mans War

Same spot, same tactic and one of the same calls from last year. I added a classic this season that did help with different tone. Both callers had them going from first response until the shot. Early morning opening day success, hope to make the same for next season.
