Post by: Greenhead12 on March 20, 2024, 01:15:07 PM
Does anyone know if the newest model sbe 3 20 gauge comes drilled and taped?

I saw or read somewhere, that from this point forward, they would be as well as the 28 gauges. Can't verify as I haven't laid eyes on either gauge.....

Bought a tungsten and timber SBE3 yesterday.  It is drilled and tapped but only the back 2 holes closest to the shoulder stock.  I ordered a sumtoy base for mine.  Now just waiting.

Was there a build date on the box? I'm trying to find ones of these. Talked to 4 or 5 Benelli dealers none of them have heard of the drilled and tapped sbe 3 20 gauge's models. Benelli is closed for the week so can't ask them.

I'm really not sure.  I threw the box away.   I can check on the sticker that came inside the case when I get to the house in the morning.

Thanks!

I just got a message from the people that run Benelli facebook page saying they don't come drilled and tapped. Now I am even more confused.

Here is a 28 gauge. You'll have to look close to see the camo plug screws. Not my gun so I don't have better photos....

Yep I have always kept the gun boxes. I have them stacked up in a spare room.  That way I can keep my Wife on her toes. She'll ask, "How long have you had that one? " my response is always the same. "I   been had it"!!! I may have been had it 20 years or 20 minutes!!!

They must have changed at some point because adamky has one that he just bought. He sent me photos of it and it has the factory plastic plugs just like that 28 gauge that was posted.

Just got off the phone with Benelli USA the new models with the serial number ending IT 23 should all be drilled and tapped from here on out. So if you want it that way, just make sure the serial number ends IT 23

They also said they beefed up the receiver cover were screw holes were tapped.

Mine from the factory.
20 gauge

So has anyone removed these plugs? My 28 has them, but I'm not sure they'll come out?

I used an 8D nail to knock mine out.  I saved them to put back in after I take my sumtoy mount off for Dove and duck hunting.

Are the plugs threaded? If so I would NOT knock them out with anything, especially a nail.

They are just plastic plugs.  They are snug.  They have to be pushed out from the inside.  They are not threaded.  I just used something skinnier than the hole to not damage threads when pushing plug out.

I am contemplating purchasing one of the 20 gauges. Since there are just two holes at the back of the receiver drilled and tapped, what weaver style base or bases other than a Sumtoy style fits?

Got mine from SumToy, he has them on his website. Just make sure you get the 2023 model sbe 3 with IT 23 after serial number.

Yeah, I was looking for a weaver style cross slot other than Sumtoy. I have Sumtoy bases and like them a lot but seeing what Weaver style option was available....

Any word on if the new drilled and tapped receiver cover will fit the models that are not drilled and tapped? Meaning, could the new cover be purchased and put on the older one.
