Title: Patterning shotgun in different weather conditions
Post by: Bustabeak on March 14, 2024, 10:57:06 PM
Wondering if there are differences when patterning a shotgun? As in, what have you noticed  is affected by temperatures, moisture, etc. I can see where how's it going? Winds could sway the POI, but I'm more curious about rain and temps. Or do you just always pattern on bluebird days with little wind?

Everything affects them.
Temperature biggest affect as far as weather.

Altitude, wind, humidity, barometric pressure, moon position, tide going in or tide going out, cloud cover, amount of sunlight .

Think lead affected more by temps. (Density)
TSS more affected by wind .  ( lighter weight)

Bore size, Overbore/backbore lose more in cold but gain more when it's warm.

That being said no two patterns ever exactly
Wind. Think TSS drift a little more than lead as far as turkey shot size ( pellets lighter).

Lead 6 is HEAVIER than TSS 9

TSS 9 similar to Lead 7.5 in weight.

That's NOT what you said.  NOT even close to what you said above. So what, 00 Buckshot is heavier than 9 TSS.  9 TSS will out last your 6 Lead. And I know for a fact that 9s in TSS will out pattern your lead 6s, NO way around it. I am talking percentages. Your entire post confused me.
ALL you had to say is "I was wrong".

That's exactly what I said.

Lead in typical shot sizes used for turkey hunting is HEAVIER than TSS in its typical sizes used for turkey hunting.

You read what you wanted to read.
Whole post was about weather and effect on patterns.

Denser pellets less affected by temp
Heavy pellets less affected by wind.

Never said lead 6s pattern better than TSS 9.
