If you had to have one striker to pack to the woods to kill a bird day in and day out, what material would it be and from who?
Hickory, Russell Beard

2 - piece persimmon / snakewood
Hard to say from who, but a laminated wood striker like Frogwood or Rutland Dymondwood.

Harold Fowler Snakewood with Osage top.
Hickory. Specifically from Bill Lyman.
Crazy as it sounds a two piece dymond wood with a maple top.
Due to overall sound and compatibility across different surfaces, I'd want frogwood from Jeff Harrison.

This or JLH purpleheart. Z
A Fowler 2 piece carbon stem w/Australian Buloke Tip
2 piece rutland dymond rod black red wood maple head no finish on striker
Either one of my rutland dymondwood or one of my snakewood.
Hickory and I got a two piece striker with wax or some sort of coating like resin that makes the striker waterproof that was made by a guy I bought a custom call from 2 years ago
Halloran 1pc ipe for me. If I didn't have access to that it would be a Lyman hickory.
Ted Pete peters laminated oak or his laminated birch

Those are probably my favorite of all time. I haven't taken mine to the woods in a while because I'm afraid of losing them.
FYI. For those of you that love birch laminated strikers, Frogwood is a laminated birch hardwood that is dyed different colors and makes some GREAT strikers, in my opinion. For me, it is hard to beat on any surface and dymondwood would run a close second.

A really badass striker
23 grams of Katalox will work all day long on most calls.
Does Bill Lyman have a website or maybe his contact info

Only one.... It would probably have to be a JLH heavy frogwood.
If it could be two, a Fred Cox red cedar would be the second.
Neal Hermann Dymondwood
Mr Bill Lyman isn't taking orders anymore, I've got a couple Frogwood in the works from JLH

a JLH heavy frog or JLH carbon
One piece Hickory from Mountainside.
My favorite has been my JLH frogwood... for reasons unexplained that is what I reach for most often.

so many people reply with different answers, does it really matter with what you use, i know you are looking for a sound that works for you, but what works today , wouldn't work the next day... or so
Pau Rosa
Plays great on every surface from slate ceramic aluminum glass titanium
I have a tie, always take em both and some more. Bill Lyman walnut and Dustin Holtzman DBH tulipwood.

I really like a 2 piece, maple top and some diamondwood, frog wood, web wood, whatever striker tip. They just sing and have a lot of rasp/rattle. Nothin crazy, straight hammer.

An Ipe of some verity, I always buy ipe and tulipwood when I am trying a new striker maker as they are about my favorite woods.

Interesting, don't hear much about walnut strikers. Very cool.
I want one of my white waterproof strikers. The ol' "Thunder Wonder". Sure some say others sound better...hard maybe... but I've killed to many birds with one not to have confidence and moisture doesn't slow you down.
Tulipwood by Obsession Game Calls.
Getting harder to come by, the don't allow the wood to be imported any longer.
JLH FROG
I have a hickoy from Jason Stuckey that sounds good on almost any pot I use. Paired with my Lon Trice slate, all the turkey you would ever want.

Not crazy at all. That plays better than anything on nearly everything...IMHO.
Stuckey Dymondwood still ranks #1 for me
Two piece ipe from Bradley Humphrey

I agree. I think consistency of the material is important. The laminated strikers like Frogwood, Dymondwood, etc are really consistent.
