Hey guys, I'm looking for some feedback on box calls. I haven't messed around with one much just stuck to diaphragm calls. Always open to helpful advice and tips. I don't mind spending a little money on one but not looking to spend anything crazy.
Thanks!
SS calls (Shoemakers make Great Money boxes), Spring Creek Calls (Mike does a Great job as well) and David Halloran makes a Quality box. These 3 come to mind and won't break the bank. Check the Turkey Call Classifieds, there are some there now. The ones I have mentioned all have their own sites. You'll have to decide on your wood combos and once that is established contact them and they will play a few for you. Plenty of Quality call makers on this site and you'll get plenty of recommendations.
Can't go wrong with Spring Creek calls or SS calls.
I am a poor caller. Don't know others mentioned but I got a Spring Creek box and finally sound like a turkey.

All good advice !!
Add two other GREAT box call builders and Old Gobbler Forums members..........
ferocious calls (Kip Feroce)
trb136 (Tim Bullock)
Get a Scott Witter, SS, or David Halloran. You won't go wrong with any of them.
I have boxes from Spring Creek and SS Calls. Both were very reasonably priced for the sounds they produce.
Lots of good recommendations but I typically advise a longbox and I don't even carry a short box. A longbox does it better and more of it imo. SS makes some real nice ones, McKamey too. While you're at the longbox get a Yoder holster for it. Keeps it quiet and secure
I will add, contact some of the ones listed and get them to play you a few sound files and see what you like in the tones and sounds your looking for in a call. Don't just buy a box to buy a box call... IMO... A box you like is a box you will play and carry while hunting...

Excellent advice.
Can't go wrong with a Ralph Snodgrass long box or mini boat, those won't break the bank.
I raises two wild turkeys from hatched eggs. My lynch fool proof sounded like the hen I raised. Clucks and yelps are easy on it.
Albert Paul's calls!
If I were going to go custom:
Albert Paul makes a heck of a call...
Spring Creek is a great call at a great price.
I have purchased from both... You'll pay a bit more for Albert Paul, but it is worth it. Spring Creek is probably the most under-priced call made... Great quality.
Production calls:
Lynch Fool Proof or Lynch World Champion.
Primos Heartbreaker
One nice aspect about the production calls, is that if you can find a store that carries them, you can try them before purchase.

Agreed... Did not see any call makers I would avoid that were posted... While I have not heard/seen a lot of them, I have no doubt but that they make quality calls.
Problem is, unless you have a very large social group of turkey hunters, it is difficult to listen to any calls from custom call makers...
There are members on this forum, of whom I pay more attention to, because they have consistently given good advice about either or both gear and hunting strategies... I tend to perk my ears when they give advice or recommendations on calls or gear that they approve of.
And... I carry a call that I do not like the sound of... It is a box call that basically yelps, with some limited clucking and cutting... But the godang turkeys love this call... I would rather have a call that the turkeys think sounds good, over one that I do. :goofball:
All great choices and most all will run some for you but to add one more name, Marlin Watkins! he will play all he's got made up, only problem is picking just one!
I would add Steve Mann to the list. Great sounding calls and he will play them for you or send you a video of him playing the call
