Turkey hunting forum for turkey hunting tips

I've always heard all good things come to an end.  I have realized over the last few months that the forum has somehow outgrown me.  My views and techniques as far as turkey hunting are outdated.  I now know I have very little to offer todays turkey hunter.   My opinions (that's all they are) and a few like me are often scoffed at, and labels like elitist, arrogant, etc are thrown around.  Simply because of an opinion.  The forum has taken on a more serious tone, which is to be expected as one matures and grows.  More and more members are easily offended now and get defensive pretty quick.  I thought well, I'll just adapt.  It didn't take me long to realize that is a lost cause, I am who I am.  What used to be a fun care free place is quickly becoming the opposite, at least for me.   I have enough seriousness to deal with in everyday life. I always enjoyed coming here amongst people who share the same passion and have a little fun.  But those days have dwindled to almost nonexistent.

I've decided it may be time for me to move on and put this in the rear view mirror.  I'll probably leave my account open until about Friday to read some replies, then delete it.   I just wanted to tell everyone that I have enjoyed OG over the years, and have enjoyed a lot of laughs.  And if I can help anyone in any way, feel free to reach out to me.  I'm pretty easy to find.  Lot of people here have my number.   And I want to wish everyone a safe and successful spring, be sure and take a youth if you have the opportunity.   Kids hunt for the right reasons (fun).   I hope your properties are full of long spurred, hard gobbling, cooperative long beards.  :wave:

I have not been a member near long enough to make your acquaintance, but I hate seeing long time members parting ways with a very informative site. I completely understand how some comments can get under a ol'guys skin. That's half the reason I gave up on social media years ago and probably why the "social media experiment" post was started a few days ago by another member. Regardless of the comments by a few, the knowledge and stories we can pass along to others far outweighs those few comments IMO. I'm sure my lack of acquaintance with you is my loss, but I hope you reconsider.
I will be in Nashville so perhaps I will have the pleasure of making your acquaintance there.

GW, I hope you're Pulling our Leg.  We both registered for this site at about the same time in 2011 (at the height of the Hevi 13 era) and we are close to the same age.  I personally have enjoyed your knowledge and wisdom.  This site is what it is because of people like us.  We care about this sport and try our best to educate and share our knowledge with those around us.  Some will use it, some will discard it, and a few will want to argue about it.  I'm not going to allow a few that always invade this GREAT site at this time every year, for a month or two, to disrupt that.  This is a GREAT FAMILY, so stick it out.  Remember FAMILY sticks together through the Good Times and the Bad.   

C'mon man!  You can't quit!  Who am I going to harass if you leave?!  Dammit, my easiest target to dunk on on the entire forum and he is gonna take his ball and go home?!  Say it ain't so!

Really...seriously...your wit, wisdom, and great attitude are important here, buddy.  Think about it some more for all of our sakes.  You are a fixture here who would be sorely missed!

Mr. Guesswho, you are a friend when I needed help and guidance, like you and others, I'm not always happy reading things and threads that pop up at times, but I know that the core of this wonderful family of likeminded people will get through season after season. If you really have had enough, that is your choice, I just want you to know I have enjoyed your wisdom and help, Thank you. 

Ronnie I sure hope you reconsider this.  There will be much less humor and wisdom here if you go.

Although we have never met, I sincerely hope you will stay.  For the forum to be valuable, we need different people with unique opinions.  I, for one, enjoy looking at things from anther perspective.  It doesn't mean I will always change but I never will if the only perspective I have is my own.  Keep the faith and know that people want you here.

I just celebrated 13 years here and enjoyed it all w/guys like you. Strength in numbers my OG brother the good will always weigh out the bad. Like the rest say... Stick it out! And better go 10 pages.

Good for you.  Now you can get back what you love to do. Match wits with a gobbler on your own terms for your on pleasure.  As my late friend wrote, it is a "One Man's Game."

I was gonna say your an adult and can make your own decisions. I thought better of that idea and will just say your a big boy and can make your own decisions. You made this place fun for many of us. It won't be the end, though. I have always appreciated the dinosaurs of turkey hunting. They are my kind of people.

Ain't gonna even try to change your mind because I totally understand. I will say that any time I saw your posts, I knew it was going to content that was worth reading. Turkey hunting camps have always been full of pride and egos. This place is no different. I learned a long time ago to pay the least attention to the loudest braggers amd go learn from the ole fella being quiet in the corner. I viewed you to that fellow on OG.
Good luck this Spring, and I promise I will have multiple youths out this Spring.

Well I really hate to see this, but I would be lying to say I have not considered the same. Times have changed and it seems our way of hunting is in the decline. That is alright, but I will continue doing what I have always done. I appreciate OG greatly as it has brought me many great relationships with people from all over this great country. Well sir, you have always had my upmost respect. I admittedly stalked you some to gather any small piece of wisdom you may have left in a post. Just know, I know there will be many gobblers that know their fate is sealed when you step in their woods.

Good things come and go I guess, I even heard the Mossberg Mauler is considering retirement, smaller gauges I guess.

Awwwww come on. Don't let the new fangled social media/YouTube loving turkey hunters run ya off! I've been here since the very beginning and have always enjoyed your posts. Unfortunately our type is a dying breed, that is for sure. If you do depart for good, just know we've VERY much enjoyed having you.

Guess Who, you are a class act, a foundation block here. I know I can't change your mind, but I'll try. We (I) love your posts. We need your point of view, it's valuable and priceless. The forum does have controversy, but this time of year it's expected. I will personally be sad to see you go, I know I speak for many. I've spent 8 years on this forum - all of those reading and expecting a good comment from you as an answer or suggestion- you are right about the change in direction but your input is valuable to us all - consider staying on !!

I said it via pm and I will say it again.  You are one of my favorite posters, both for your knowledge, self deprecating humor and passion for turkeys.  This site will be lessened without your presence.  Only site I have ever bothered to join after reading more than a few and it is easily the best.  Maybe after a brief rest you will realize you miss it.  If not, I am glad to have conversed with you on here. 

There will be a whole generation coming up who knows nothing of the Badonkadeke.  Think of the children! :TooFunny:

I am going to speak for myself, probably 98% of the members here. Your resignation is not accepted Sir. You are a major contributor here and your opinions are well received and respected. All kidding aside, please reconsider, there are plenty of us, myself included , that enjoy and respect your commentary and wisdom. Our souls are tormented enough with life, when our joy become our pain it's time to cut something loose. I was a member on a fishing forum for a longtime and one day a political post showed up and people just went off on each other. I deleted my profile and never went back. Farewell,good buddy. Don't go, we would indeed miss you. I enjoy your posts even if we do not always agree on things. I agree there has been a change here and I put it at the time Covid started, lot of people started that just wanted to argue, but we also got some good ones.

Brother I truly wish you well and share some of the sentiments you stated in your thread but there's more think like you and it's important your thoughts and ideas are heard. Seems you've made a decision.i wish you the best. Thanks for all your input

The forum does have a lot of great members.  I think I'll leave my account open but just step away.  I'll sit on the bench in case someone needs a pinch hitter.   I'm not as fast as I used to be, but I can still hit dingers.   I'm thinking about changing up my meds, maybe that will get my head back to abnormal.  I think I may reduce both the red and blue pills by one, and add an extra green one.  I think the blue ones may be the issue.
