Just curious about how you came up with your screen name? Mine of course is the way I used to hunt 40 plus years ago!!! I have slowed down a little bit over the years. Nice it's more like "walk and talk". LOL
If you don't mind what did you do for a living?
I recently retired from Law enforcement after 35 years.

Guesswho is the last thing gobblers hear out of me. I was an account specialist for 37 years and retired 8 years ago. The following week the same company hired me as a consultant a couple hours a week making more money "crazy". So I now consult a few hours a week and am a Gigolo the rest of the time. Gigolo name is also Guesswho.
Vintage is because that is the way I hunt. I like hunting the old ways. I retired 11 years ago from a aircraft engine Mfg.
Nothing fancy here just part of my name . I'm still working . Wish I was retired lol . I'm a bourbon distiller.
Baseball was a passion of mine growing up and when I stopped playing it was only natural for me to give back and continue coaching. From Little League to Middle School and on to High School. Great pastime.

Mine is just my state of mind. I joined right after I had just been promoted into the office after 16 years of traveling around the country for at least 4-5 days a week and sometimes working a month or two straight. I am just happy to be spending more time with the wife and kids. Two of them aren't kids anymore, though.

A bow hunting friend of mine many years ago started calling me that. When I asked why, he said it was what the natives called hunters in the old Tarzan movies and means the "Great white hunter" in Swahili, supposedly. My friend also happens to be black and he thought it was funny. Stuck with me ever since.
Interesting post runngun and congratulations to all who have retired from long and successful careers. I'm with Greg Massey, mine is my first name. I'm still in law enforcement and hit my 30th year in February. Have a few more years to go before I hang it up.
Now this is QUALITY ENTERTAINMENT!!! Keep them coming!!

I was a human resource manager for 40+ years and retired 15 years ago Nothing special about the Gobbler part but the 428 is the course number of one of two boy scout wood badge courses I was fortunate enough to have been course director on several years ago.
I am very creative so I used my old college email. I am a Facilities Director for a school district.
In parts of the world, I am known for making an adult beverage made out of raspberries and was named accordingly

I have a few machine guns and even after all these years, I still LOVE doing mag dumps out of them more than anything else as far as firearms go.
I joined a local forum rigth after Dale Earnhardt's crash, last name is Bailey and the 3's a small tribute to the ole man! Retired with 39 1/2 years as a UPS delivery guy! My boss said doesn't 40 years sound better and I said I am not working another Christmas season!

Have this name on a bunch of forums.
Will probably never officially retire, just work less and less until one day I never go back. Been at it 35 years in May and still like my work.
By the way, the patient in the radiograph to the left did not make it.

Wigsplitter as in shooting a gobbler in the head or splitting his wig for him- 23 years in a paper mill and now in the natural gas transmission industry- bout 15 more years until retirement!!
Turkey hunting for me has always been about the gobble. I guess you could say I am a "gobble nut". ;D
Career as a building contractor and retired ten years ago at 62.
When I started turkey hunting many years ago I seen more Turkeybutts running or walking away from me.
I was a welder by trade. I worked with a rather loud gentleman that loved to give everyone a nickname. Two guys, including me, started on the same day at a steel fabrication shop. He said to me" You look like a Zelmo, and you could be his little brother" Hence the#1 being added to it. I am a project manager now. I can retire any day but am sticking to my plan of retiring on my 62nd birthday, for now. Z
In 1978 I saw my first Boykin Spaniel and decided I had to have one. 2023 was the first year that I have been dog-less when put our last Boykin down because of seizures. I raised several liters of boykins through the years, so I named my place Boykin Hollow.
First "custom" turkey call I ever had was a copper over acrylic in an osage pot from Wendell Rye. A copper pot. Chester Copperpot was the name of the local treasure hunter and dead man the kids found in the movie The Goonies.

The name came from a bow hunting trip in KS when I had a Badger come within about 8 yrds of me. I worked as a civilian for government for over 40 yrs and retired on a Friday and returned on Monday as a contractor for almost 7 more years. Most of work was in the Security Field or tech and security when a contractor. I would go with my dad to deer hunt back in the 60's when I was little and I have been hunting every since. Did more deer hunting when younger and started hunting turkeys and deer when in my 30's. Almost spend as much time turkey hunting as I do bow hunting the last 20 plus years. PA native.
My nick name is Pete. I was a firefighter for 20 yrs.(14 volunteer & 6 paid). My highest rank was Captain. Add the 2 together and you get CaptPete.

Great posts here. My wife and I love James Bond movies. We have seen them all several times. I named my boats after 007 over the years. My present boat has the name "Shaken Knot Stirred". We all know where that came from.....
It was my nickname as a little kid. Long story. And since I named the call company Gooserbat it's twofold.
I used to carry a Browning BPS 12 gauge and my daughter's birthday is October 26th.
My other passion is fishing. A long time ago, the common name people called largemouth bass before they knew any better was "green trout."
I work for a bank.
Mine is my nickname + 22 that's my old sports #
Screen name from old message boards. Love to bow hunt and in the old days I use to use muzzy broadheads.
Well......apparently, 14 years ago I was at the computer signing up for another forum and I pulled it outta my hind end. ;D
I live near an Old Order Amish community. So "Yoder" was just randomly pulled from one of about 15 Amish surnames. And, I'm a big block Chevy kinda guy. Old order big block Chevy is the 409.
Come to think about it.......... I coulda just as easily been Byler348 or Miller396 or Schlabach454 or Troyer427 or......... :TooFunny:
Oh, yeah.......... 35 1/2 years as a UPS driver was 35 1/2 too many for me. Retired last March.
The misfire is from Misfire Game Calls. Currently working 32+ years in law enforcement, retired from one, screwed up and bout a boat, had to go back to work. Too dumb to do anything else, so I am back in it for 5 more years. Good Lord willing, I will have 2 retirements plus SS and no bills.

It technically means "boss". But is often used to mean the lead hunter or professional guide in Africa-especially today. KiSwahilli is the language of the Swahilli people (not sure if this is an old term or if it still used today). I only know this from reading Peter Hathway Capstick books about the great turn of the century African hunters and guides. Books like Death in The Long Grass, Death in the Dark Continent and others. Great reads of a bygone era. Capstick to me was more of an outdoor writer than any I have read, and I include Ruark and Hemingway.
When I read your handle I always assumed you were a Capstick fan. One of my clients was a writer and personal friend of his and I could have met him when he lived in Florida if I had known.

And I have been a History Teacher and High School football coach for the last 10 years. 31 years of age with a long time teaching ahead of me still. At least I can save my 3 personal days for every spring until retirement.
Mine is somewhat simple, but in 1998 Wisconsin offered Sesquicentennial Plates at no additional charge to have Vanity Plates, a number of buddies and I all turkey hunted together at times, and we all sent in for these plates and turkey themed.
Mine was my first choice and was part of a Seminar Series I created called Turkey University, Well I would speak on how to "Make them Gobble" MK M GOBL, then the NWTF put on a National Vanity License Plate Contest, and I WON that!!
You will also see my "Gobbler Guru" nickname as a buddy I hunt with has always called me that, and then of course there is my business "FanAtic Turkey Displays"
Here's the list as best as I can remember the license plates we all did.

I love all hunting. Turkey hunting is by far my favorite. There is nothing like
A like a great turkey story.
The handle...
Many moons ago, I was after this bird. I came back to camp with my tail between my legs and spoke of him. He was the biggest Tom EvaaaaH, I said. A buddy of mine (may God be good to him) Said yer out after Ol' TrackeySauresRex again? I never did get him. A turkey hunting memory that is burnt into my mind and will last forever. So that's what I'm after. The biggest, meanest, angriest, long spurred, giant beard, gobbling Tom out there. :toothy9:
Most times I come back with my tail between my legs. Smiling ;D
Play on words for my username. Happens to a couple of my favorite things, spurs and gobbling. Also an ode to the frustration of those quite days in the woods

I like these threads.
I was born, raised and still reside in a small community in Cherokee County, GA called Sixes. My family moved here in the late 1700s and early 1800s and we are still here. It was a GREAT place while growing up, half mile to Lake Allatoona, thousands of acres of Corp land to explore and ride ATVs and great people in the area. It went to crap about 25 years ago when the influx of move ins started. Its still a very nice area and place to live, but it's not what it once was.
I work for Southern Company Gas in a LNG (Liquefied Natural Gas) Peak Shaving plant. I've worked at Southern Company/AGL Resources for about 27 years and at the plant for 24. I have about a decade (+/- a year) before I retire. It's a great place to work with really good people. Plus, we are now allowed to hunt the 1000 acres that the plant sits on. A total of 3 of us hunted this past deer season and I am the only turkey hunter.
Here are the 2 bucks that I killed with my bow this past season on the land.

The Sir part comes from my love of midevil times, my mother gave me a book when I was 9-12 I guess that was on knights weapons, armor and siege weapons and that started that love for me.
When I had my car accident in 2001 I was not able to stand, sit, lay down or do much of anything for very long but I had a friend that had this one computer chair that I could sit in without much pain and I got into computer gaming when sitting at his computer. I also wound up getting my own gaming rigs and went to a LAN party (Where gamers get together at someones house or rent out a hotel meeting room play video games on their computers together) with some friends and my friend Jerry walked behind me and was watching me and said "Man you die a lot" and that is where the diealot comes from. I like to be kind of humorous in my own odd little way so I combined the two to become Sir-diealot I will never change the name, my mother died a long time ago and Jerry died much to soon leaving behind 3 kids including a daughter that was born after he passed. I do all I can with them but they are all grown up and on their own now. Man time flies fast.

30 Years ago I went bow hunting crazy. I watched Phil Phillip's hunting video "Cowboy in Africa" in which he used a reflex bow. I went and bought a reflex bow. When I first signed on to Old Gobbler there was a glitch in the software. I registered with a name I used on numerous forums "reflex264". We tried to fix it at the time and it wasn't cooperating so I just changed it to "reflexl' which was the first letter I hit on the keyboard after I typed reflex. It stuck with a bunch of my buddies so I am still reflexl.
