Title: Man I miss turkey hunting
Post by: Brinkcalls on December 28, 2023, 10:39:44 AM
Started getting snow this week again. Looked out in the woods we've hunted so many times. Man I miss turkey hunting.

Turkey tracks heading to the fields, knowing this trail had drag marks all spring.
Man I miss turkey hunting.

Same 4 oaks, that hold a half dozen birds daily. Knowing it erupts with a gobble during that spring calmness.
Man I miss turkey hunting.

That same spot we've sat, that same log that's always an issue. Haven't moved it yet.
Man I miss turkey hunting.

Dug out the vest just to look, play a few calls... just a few more months...
Man I miss turkey hunting.

New year, probably tell the same story!
Man I miss turkey hunting.

I am with you 100%. Watched the sun come up over the field this morning, and in my mind, could hear soft tree yelps, an occasional Barred owl, and somewhere on the ridge overlooking a huge patch of clover and fescue, I imagined hearing him gobble. Not once, but several times, as he gathers his harem. Mmm, looking forward to April, good Lord willing and the creeks don't rise.....

It has been a great fall and the winter weather here is sunny and mild.  But I too, miss turkey hunting.  Soon eorlando will grace us with some incredible turkey pics and spring will arrive.  I look forward to both.

I as well miss Turkey Hunting and love to bow hunt deer as well.  Hoping to get another few days of bow hunting in yet.  Turkey season is right around the bend and time goes by to fast.

Time will go quickly now.  Once we hit January in Michigan we are only 6-8 weeks from the chance at a warmer day or two.  From there we are very close.  For you southern brothers, in only 8 weeks you are about there.  Right now I am in the woods squirrel hunting so I am at least in my happy place a time or two each week.

I always look forward to next season after the spring season closes. I enjoy playing and practicing with calls year round... Don't let those calls get lonely after the season closes, as others have said now is a great time to practice and buy more calls ... For some of us, it is feeding the addiction year round ... chatting with call builders, buying calls, setting up a new gun and getting ready for another season.  AND chatting with everyone on OG ....

Hear ya...every time I hear an owl or crow call, just waiting for a gobble response. Sometimes I respond with my own gobble.lol

I agree whole heartedly. Chasing whitetails is my passion, but chasing Spring Gobblers is my obsession.
