Title: Got my stuff back from Africa today!
Post by: TheTwistedOne on July 07, 2011, 07:15:24 PM
Got a call today that a package was gonna be delivered from Coppersmith.  The guy says, "I'm 10 minutes away are you gonna be home?"

I said, "Bring it!"

Got the stuff uncrated and set up.  Trophy Service in RSA did a great job on my stuff.  I'm very impressed.  I would definitely use them again.

Do you mind going into the math that led to your decision to get them mounted in RSA and shipped in crates rather than just shipping capes and horns and getting them mounted domestically?  Most people do the latter.

The taxidermist I used in RSA charges in RAND.  At the time of my hunt the dollar was very strong versus the RAND.  You also don't need to pay for dip and pack (about $150/animal) if it is mounted in South Africa.  Since I was only exporting three smaller trophies the final crate size was not going to be that big (3x3x3).  Shippers charge by volume or weight whichever they can charge you more for!

Had I decided to get a full shoulder mount on the Eland the savings of doing it over there would have vanished in shipping charges because the crate size would have tripled.

It is not a good idea for everyone to do it this way but if it is just three or four small to medium sized mounts it is an option to consider.
