Title: NYT article: Dwindling Turkey Numbers
Post by: mcw3734 on November 29, 2023, 01:51:13 PM
The New York Times published an article last week on Thanksgiving (of course): Turkeys Were a Marvel of Conservation. Now Their Numbers Are Dwindling.

The article doesn't have anything we OG regulars aren't already aware of. But it was an introduction of turkeys to the general public and highlighting the recent challenges. Includes quotes from NWTF staff and Marcus Lashley from the Wild Turkey Science Podcast. I thought it was cool that a national/international news outlet covered the subject.

I believe you need a subscription to read the article, but as a subscriber I have 10 'Gift Articles' I can pass out each month. If anybody is interested in the article, shoot me a PM with your email or cell number and I'll send you a link.

The journalist also wrote an article back in 2021 about wild turkeys making themselves home on college campuses, and in 2022 about turkey sports mascots, both of which are referenced in this latest article.

I'm glad the issue is getting attention outside of traditional hunting publications

And it is VERY good to see researcher names other than the one we've been seeing so much the past few years.
